BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The #11 Pacific women's water polo team (9-4) split the second day of competition at the Indiana Classic 1-1 for a record of 2-2 over the weekend.
The Tigers took on the tournament host, the #12 Indiana Hoosiers (11-4) and fell 8-5 early Sunday morning. Pacific then took on another Tigers team, the big cats from Occidental (0-5) and won a deciding 18-2 victory.
Against Indiana, sophomore Szamira Koppány led the Tigers with two goals. Freshman Alicia Petkov, graduate student Lucy Davis and sophomore Hila Futorian each scored once for the Tigers. Davis was credited with an assist on Futorian's goal.
Futorian helped keep the ball in the Tigers' possession with three steals against the Hoosiers. Freshman Dora Alaksza and redshirt senior goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi each added another steal for Pacific.
Assisting Vulpisi on the defensive end, graduate student Brianna Utas led the team with three field blocks. Alaksza, Davis and Koppány each added another.
Vulpisi had 10 saves against Indiana for a .556 save percentage.
Against Occidental, sophomore Addison McGowan, Alaksza, junior Annikah Lillie and junior June Akpata each found the back of the net four times. Petkov dented the twine twice.
The Tigers are back in action on March 3 at the Ponoma-Pitzer Invitational.
