Pacific Falls to Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific women's basketball team (12-16, 7-10) battled in a defensive battle with Portland (20-7, 14-2) to a 57-46 final at the Chiles Center.

Senior Sam Ashby led the team in scoring, scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. Sophomore Anaya James added ten points and was perfect from beyond the arc. Sophomore Elizabeth Elliott grabbed eight rebounds and put up eight points.

They stayed close in the first quarter, with both teams putting up 10. Ashby led the Tigers scoring four points. Pacific got out to an early 10-6 lead before Portland scored four straight to bring it even heading into the second quarter.

A pair of free throws from sophomore Diamond Richardson put Pacific up six with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter as Pacific started the quarter on a 6-0 run. Portland went on an 11-0 run to end the half and went up by eight heading into the locker room.

Portland continued the momentum coming out of the half, maintaining its lead for the third quarter despite the Tigers outscoring the Pilots by one. James and Elliott led the Tigers in the third, with the duo putting up six points apiece.

Ashby put up six points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Portland lead as the Pilots maintained a double-digit lead for the entire quarter.

Pacific wraps up the regular season at 5 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 25, in Moraga, Calif.
