Clara Vulpisi'23 is playing with the Canadian National Team at the 2023 Pan American Games.
This is the Montreal, Canada native's fourth appearance with the senior national team and sixth competing for her country. Vulpisi started with Canada at the Youth Pan American Games in 2015. In her second year, she was selected Most Valuable Goalkeeper while helping the team earn gold at the 2016 Junior Pan American Games.
Vulpisi made her first appearance with the senior national team at the FINA World League, guiding Canada to fourth place finishes in 2018 and 2021. She started in net for two of the team's seven matches at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The team that wins the Pan American Games will earn an automatic berth to the 2024 games in Paris. Canada looks to qualify for the Olympics for the second straight year after earning a spot for the first time since 2004.
Canada won the first two matches in the Group A Stage against Argentina (14-9) and Cuba (25-4). Vulpisi notched two steals against Cuba.
The former Tiger played for Pacific from 2019 to 2023. Vulpisi appeared in 76 contests in net while producing 476 saves and 94 steals. She was selected to the Gold Coast Conference All-Freshman Team in 2019, Honorable Mention twice in 2019 and 2023 and All-Conference First Team in 2022. During her redshirt junior season, she led the league with a .531 save percentage.
Vulpisi and Canada play their final contests in the Group A Stage against Mexico at 4 a.m. ET/8 a.m. Punta Arenas time on Wednesday. The quarterfinals of the Pan American Games will begin on Thursday.
