Men's Basketball Drops Conference Decision to Santa Clara

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team dropped a West Coast Conference decision to Santa Clara Saturday evening, falling 92-81 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

"They [Santa Clara] felt comfortable offensively," Head Coach Leonard Perry said after the game. "We didn't get the necessary stops to make them feel uncomfortable, and it was trouble from the jump."

Judson Martindale led the Tigers (10-10, 3-2) in scoring for the second straight game, tallying 17 points on 75 percent (six-for-eight) shooting. Martindale also led the team in three-point baskets, connecting on four of his six attempts. In his last four starts, the Sudbury, Mass. sophomore is shooting 63.1 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from beyond the three-point line while increasing his season-scoring average to 5.2 points per game.

Keylan Boone reached double figures for the seventh-consecutive game, scoring 13 points in 24 minutes of work. Along with the offensive production, Boone contributed on the defensive end, tallying a team-high five rebounds and two steals.

Outscoring the Broncos in bench points, the Tigers tallied 30 behind the 10-point performance from Jordan Ivy-Curry. Leading the second unit, Ivy-Curry reached double figures for the 10th time this season and was perfect from the free-throw line, knocking down all three of his attempts.

Greg Outlaw shined for the Tigers defensively, registering a career-high four steals and one block. Outlaw, earning his fifth consecutive start, also contributed eight points and a season-high three assists.

In a first half that saw 10 lead changes, the Broncos (15-5, 3-2) took the lead for good, 31-30, at the 6:30 mark. Expanding their advantage to double-digits with two minutes remaining in the first 20 minutes of play, the Broncos held a 12-point edge, 51-39, at the halftime break.

Despite the loss, the Tigers shot a stellar 53.8 percent from the floor in the second half and clamped down defensively on the perimeter, holding the Broncos to just nine percent (one-for-11) from distance.

Pacific returns to action at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, as it travels to San Francisco for a conference contest at the War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
