Tigers Fall to Dons

Four Tigers Score in Double Digits in Loss

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific women's basketball team (7-10, 2-4) had four players score in double figures, but a record-setting night from San Francisco (13-5, 3-3) helped the Dons to a 91-80 win over the Tigers.

Senior Sam Ashby led the team with 20 points, going 4-7 from three. Sophomore Anaya James had her first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-best 11 rebounds. Junior Liz Smith put up 17 points, while sophomore Elizabeth Elliott scored 14 points. Elliott reached 500 career points in just 44 games played.

San Francisco hit a school record 16 threes against the Tigers, led by Ionna Krimili making 10.

The two teams scored early and often, with 48 points in the first quarter. The Dons took an early five-point lead before the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run to take a four-point lead halfway through the first quarter. The two teams continued to trade leads, with the Dons snatching the lead away from the Tigers with a buzzer-beating shot at the end of the quarter.

San Francisco extended the lead in the second quarter, going on a 10-0 to start the quarter. Pacific was able to battle back, cutting the lead to five with just under three minutes remaining, but a quick response from the Dons led to an eight-point lead heading into the half for San Francisco.

The third quarter was the best of the game for San Francisco, scoring 27 points and taking a 15-point lead into the fourth. James scored five points and grabbed four rebounds in the quarter to pace the team in both categories.

A layup from James with three minutes left in the game cut the San Francisco lead to six points, but that was as close as Pacific would get. The Dons scored three straight points to end the game, and the Tigers could not hit a last-second three.

The Tigers are back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, against Santa Clara.
