Santa Clara Downs Pacific

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A 32-point first quarter for Santa Clara (11-9, 2-5) was enough for an 80-66 win over Pacific (7-11, 2-5).

Redshirt junior Rosie Schweizer had her best game of the season, scoring 18 points in just 21 minutes coming off the bench. Senior Sam Ashby continues to score whenever she touches the ball, scoring 13 points and adding four rebounds. Sophomore Anaya James and junior Erica Adams tied for the team lead with four assists, and junior Kadie Deaton had seven rebounds, the best on the team.

The Broncos seemingly couldn't miss in the first quarter, scoring 32 points on 11-14 shooting from the field and 4-4 from three. The Tigers scored 16, led by James with five, but Santa Clara led by 16 after one.

Schweizer made her mark in the second quarter, scoring 10 points on 4-5 shooting. She scored 10 of the 19 points for the Tigers in the quarter. Santa Clara continued to shoot well, hitting nine of 18 shots to take a 20-point lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter was the best of the game for the Tigers when it came to shooting, going 7-10 from the field and hitting 100% of their threes. The Broncos made just six shots in the quarter, but seven free throws helped Santa Clara keep the lead.

The Pacific fourth quarter was the best of the game, holding Santa Clara to just four points and going on a 13-2 run to close the game out. The significant lead built by the Broncos was enough to keep their distance from the Tigers and win the game.

Pacific is home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, hosting Gonzaga for Education Day.
