Tigers Finish 3-1 at MPSF Tournament

STANFORD, Calif. – The #4 Pacific men's water polo team (13-2) defeated Long Beach State Sunday afternoon to capture fifth place in the MPSF Tournament hosted by Stanford.

"This has been a very good weekend for us. We got a chance to play a lot of great competition, and we learned a lot about ourselves and a lot about all the other top programs in the country," said Head Coach James Graham. "Being 3-1 on the weekend was a great outcome. It puts us in a position to continue to compete to make the NCAA tournament."

Senior co-captain Jeremie Cote started the game for the Tigers with 6:01 left in the first, finding the back of the net with an assist from senior Djordje Stanic.

Senior Bogdan Djerkovic made it 2-0 for the Tigers on an assist from graduate student goalkeeper Bae Fountain.

With 2:50 left in the first, sophomore Mihailo Vukazic dented the twine for Pacific with an assist from Cote.

Vukazic scored his second with 38 seconds left in the first on an assist from sophomore co-captain Reuel D'Souza. The score was 4-1 for the Tigers at the end of the first.

Not even a minute into the second quarter, Stanic scored one for Pacific on an assist from Cote.

Djerkovic earned a penalty with 4:10 left in the second, and with the penalty shot made, Vukazic had his third goal of the game.

Senior Joey MacLeane subbed into net for the Tigers in the second.

Djerkovic scored one of his own on a Pacific powerplay with 1:58 left in the half, bringing the score to 7-3 for the Tigers. Cote was credited with the assist.

Sixteen seconds later, D'Souza found the back of the net for Pacific, assisted by Vukazic.

Djerkovic scored his third of the game with 26 seconds left in the half. He was assisted by Cote.

Cote earned a penalty with two seconds left in the half. Stanic took the penalty shot and scored for Pacific, making it 10-3 to end the half.

Stanic scored another for the Tigers' first of the third quarter, making it 11-4 for Pacific. The assist came from D'Souza.

Djerkovic scored his fourth of the game on a powerplay, assisted by D'Souza with 1:33 left in the third. Shortly after, the same duo was at it again. Djerkovic scored on a D'Souza assist. It was 13-5 for Pacific.

"It was a great tournament season the last month," said Graham. "Now, we're looking forward to the head-to-head games and traveling to UCLA next week."

The Tigers travel to UCLA on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
