#5 Tigers Continue Win Streak with Two Wins at Aggie Roundup

DAVIS, Calif. – The #5 Pacific men's water polo team (8-1) is not taking its foot off the gas after a massive win against #3 USC (8-2) and continues its winning streak after defeating #16 California Baptist (6-6) and #10 San Jose State (2-4) at the 2022 Aggie Roundup at UC Davis.

"You never know how guys will show up after a win like we had Friday night. Certainly, there were moments of adversity today that we had to overcome. Still, the team showed the competitive stamina and emotional resilience we need," said Head Coach James Graham. "Those are the type of championship habits we are building upon day by day. I'm proud of us today, but we need to bring the focus and energy tomorrow to finish out the weekend."

The Tigers had an impressive 16-7 showing against the Lancers to start the tournament. Senior Bogdan Djerkovic led the Tigers with four goals, and sophomore co-captain Reuel D'Souza was not far behind with three.

Senior Rene Peralta and sophomore Gil Gvishi each put two in the net for Pacific. Sophomore Mihailo Vukazic, sophomore Manuel Pembertty, senior Matthew Hosmer, senior Calvin Behm and senior Liam Egan each netted one goal for the Tigers.

Senior Joey MacLeane recorded a steal and had 15 saves for a 68.2% save percentage.

Peralta led the Tigers in assists with three. Vukazic and D'Souza each assisted on two goals. Djerkovic, senior co-captain Jeremie Cote, Pembertty, Hosmer, Gvishi, Egan, sophomore Filip Norell and junior Flynn Howarth each had one assist for Pacific.

Djerkovic, Pembertty, Gvishi and D'Souza each had a steal to help keep the ball in the hands of the Tigers.

In game two of the Aggie Roundup, the Tigers took on the Spartans of San Jose State. Pacific had another 16-goal match and won 16-9.

Pacific's penalty shot taker, Vukazic, netted one penalty shot as part of his team-leading four goals in the game. Hosmer and Djerkovic had three goals apiece, while Cote earned two. Peralta, Gvishi, D'Souza and Norell each had one for the Tigers.

Graduate student, Bae Fountain, had six saves in goal for the Tigers.

Vukazic also led Pacific in assists with five. Senior Djordje Stanic, Peralta and D'Souza each had two, while Hosmer and Gvishi both had one.

Hosmer took the ball from the Spartans twice, while Djerkovic, Pembertty and Peralta each had one steal.

Day two of the tournament for the Tigers will start with a matchup against #14 Harvard (3-1) on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10:30 a.m. The two teams last met in 2018, and the Tigers had a 10-point victory that game. Pacific is 5-0 against the Crimson.

Pacific takes on Occidental (1-4) in its last game of the Aggie Roundup on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 11:45 a.m. The Tigers take on the Tigers for the third time ever to close out their competition at the tournament. Pacific has the lead in the series, holding a 2-0 record against Occidental. The teams haven't played each other since 2009 when Pacific won 19-4.
