Pacific Softball - 2022 Season Review

STOCKTON, Calif. – With a season full of highs and lows, the Pacific softball team wrapped up the 2022 season, highlighted by multiple individuals and team achievements. The Tigers finished off the season with a 12-37 record, including earning two wins over Santa Clara and Saint Mary's during West Coast Conference play.

Carly Lucchetti led the charge for the Tigers throughout the campaign, as she led the team in multiple statistical categories. The senior from Linden, Calif., was an essential piece to the team's success this season as she tallied 15 multi-hit games, including going three-for-four with one RBI at California on March 2. Earning All-WCC Second Team honors, Lucchetti recorded a career-high .353 batting average, which ranked eighth-best in the conference. Her 53 hits this season were the most hits by a single player since the 2018 season, which landed her in a tie for fifth in the conference, the highest-ranking of her career in that category.

Rian Dirmeyer also had a breakout season in her second season of competition, earning All-WCC Second Team honors as she was second on the team with a .345 batting average. Ranking third in home runs, Dirmeyer powered a career-high nine home runs and was the first Tiger to tally a long ball in back-to-back games since the 2019 season. The sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., garnered West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors twice this season and ranked sixth in the conference with a .595 slugging percentage, the highest of her career.

This past season, youth played a significant part as nine first-year athletes came aboard. Emily Budelli, Delaney Scully, and Kyla Eck were the freshmen to see the most action as all three became regular starters. Budelli led the entire freshman class in batting average as she hit at a .275 clip in 49 games. Her 44 hits this season also led all freshmen, and she was second on the team in stolen bases with 11.

Scully also saw significant playing time as she became the starting second baseman and saw time at first base. In her first season with the team, Scully became one of the Tigers' primary offensive weapons while being solid for the team defensively, earning her an All-WCC Honorable Mention and WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Scully ranked tied for fourth on the team with a .254 batting average while tallying six hits in the final six games. Scully was also near perfect in the field. Being one of the team's most valuable middle infielders, the freshman from Valencia, Calif., compiled a .985 fielding percentage, ranking fourth-best on the team.

Eck came alive towards the end of the season and finished with a .254 batting average which tied for fourth-best on the team. Eck had seven multi-hit games while also tallying a season-high three hits in the win over Saint Mary's on April 30.

Head Coach Brian Kolze also saw individual success this season as he earned his 800th career win at home against Seton Hall on March 4. The winningest coach in softball history has accumulated an 807-761-2 record in his 30 seasons with the team.
