CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Tigers offense exploded for eight runs in the series finale against Oregon State, earning the program's first win over the Beavers in the process of Saturday's 8-3 win at Kelly Field.
The bulk of the offense came from the bottom of the Pacific (13-28, 1-8 WCC) lineup, getting multi-hit efforts from senior
Jordan Hayes in the eight spot and sophomore
Peyton Clifford in the nine spot. The latter had her best game of the season, tying her career high three hits - the second of which permanently gave Pacific the lead in the third inning. Resulting from her three hits is a new career high four RBIs and the third multi-RBI game of her career.
Hayes, while not a run producer, was a run scorer as she came around to score all three times she reached base (two singles and a walk). As a team, Pacific was quite content to play station to station and manufacture runs – notching only one extra base hit out of their 11. In fact, the one double the team hit on the afternoon are the fewest extra base hits when tallying ten-plus hits in a game since last season's Libby Matson Tournament game against San Jose State and the third such instance under Head Coach Sam Duran-Kukuk (3-0 record).
The aforementioned double came from freshman
Kelly Whelihan who finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Outside of Clifford's four RBIs, redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre tallied the other two, both of which came via the sacrifice fly – one in the second inning and one in the sixth.
The base hit was not the only way Pacific was able to pressure Oregon State (17-26, 5-4 WCC), the team matched their season high of seven walks drawn.
In the circle, sophomore
Kaytee Dahlstrom earned her second win of the season after quelling the Beavers bats for four innings and conceding only two hits and two walks. She entered the game in the second inning in relief of junior
Justice Alcaraz, who gave up three runs on four hits and a walk.
After the sophomore was done, she handed the ball off to freshman
Carley Mulcahey for two more scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh innings. During her time in the circle she gave up three hits, but none came around to score.
The Tigers have one more game on the road, facing Nevada in a mid-week showdown on Tuesday before returning home to Bill Simoni field to take on Santa Clara from Friday to Sunday. Tuesday's game will likely be streamed on the Mountain West Network while the weekend series will be shown on ESPN+.
