Tigers Set to Host Saint Mary's

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers (11-28, 2-13) are back at home after a four-game road trip. The Tigers will host Saint Mary's (22-19, 6-12). The Tigers are hosting Family and Fireworks night sponsored by Amy Scriven D.D.S. 

A solid second half of the season has moved Ben Nemivant above the .300 mark (.306), and he is second on the team in extra-base hits (15). Brandon Motheral leads the team in batting average (.320) and hits (41). Motheral is second in home runs (6). Thomas Gavello leads the team in home runs (9), RBI (26), extra-base hits (20) and walks (19). 

Jackson Vaughan leads the team in ERA (1.80) and is second in appearances (19) while being tied for the team lead in wins (2). Vaughan is the only pitcher on the staff with more than 20 innings pitched and less than 10 earned runs. Hunter Hayes leads the team in innings pitched (49.2) and strikeouts (44). Hunter Schilperoort has seven saves, and 26 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched 

Gavello is tied for second in the WCC in home runs and is third in the conference in extra-base hits. Chaz Myers and Gavello are tied for sixth in total doubles. Schilperoort is tied for second in saves. 
Saint Mary's is 2-6 over their past eight games, with wins over Gonzaga and Santa Clara. The Tigers played Saint Mary's twice last season, winning two of the seven games. The Tigers are 6-7 against Saint Mary's at home. 

The jersey number of former Tiger pitcher John Strohmayer will be retired before the Friday game. The late Strohmayer is a Pacific Hall of Famer and was a two-time captain. He was drafted by Oakland in 1968 and pitched in the major leagues for the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. After his baseball career ended, he returned to his hometown of Redding where he taught and coached at Central Valley High School. He eventually was promoted to principal and then to superintendent of Gateway Unified School District, retiring in 2009 after 32 years in education.
