STOCKTON, Calif. – The #16 Pacific Women's Water Polo team took on a strong #17 Loyola Marymount Lions Friday evening at home. After an exciting game, the Tigers came out with a 12-11 win.
"LMU is a perennial powerhouse in our conference, so we knew that would be a tough game," said Head Coach
James Graham. "We started really well, hit a little bit of adversity in the middle. I'm really proud of the group for sticking together and finding a way to get ourselves back in the game, especially in the last couple minutes of the third quarter, gutting out the performance at the end, and finding a way to get it done that was a great effort. That puts us in a good spot in the conference. Any conference win is a big win, so we're queued to look forward, and we're excited to get after it tomorrow against California Baptist."
Goal scorers for the Tigers were senior
Toula Falvey with three, senior
Emma Myall with two, senior
Lucy Davis with one, freshman
Hila Futorian with one, senior
Ana Martinez do Amaral with one and graduate student
Mariana Duarte with four; including the game-winner with 1:06 left in the fourth quarter.
Duarte had three assists in the game. Myall had one, Davis had two, and redshirt junior goalkeeper
Clara Vulpisi had one.
"Playing at home and especially in conference, this is crunch time; this is when it matters. Despite being up, then them going up and battling, I think we kept our composure and played together," said Vulpisi. "I think that's what we're all about here, and I think the second half of the season, going into conference, that's what we've been doing well. We've kept our composure, stayed together and realized we play for each other, and I think it showed today. So, I'm really proud of the team today."
The Tigers host California Baptist Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. and host their annual Wine and Water Polo fundraising event on April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
