Carly Lucchetti has been the focal point for the Pacific softball team during the 2022 season, leading the unit on and off the field. Lucchetti has put together a successful campaign for the Tigers this season as she has become one of the top offensive players in the West Coast Conference.
Â
Being a team leader has its responsibilities, and Lucchetti has stepped up to the challenge this season. As one of two seniors on the team, Lucchetti has become the leader that an inexperienced young team needs. When it comes to on-the-field play, the senior from Linden, Calif., leads the team in multiple statistical categories, including hits, on-base percentage, stolen bases, and has only recorded five strikeouts in 83 at-bats.
Â
"A leader is someone who steps up through actions and words when their team needs them," Lucchetti stated regarding what it means to be a leader. "I strive to demonstrate hard work and dedication on the field and support and advice when needed off the field."
Â
With a team full of young, inexperienced talent, Lucchetti has shown what it means to be a leader throughout the season. "Carly's leadership is two-fold," Head Coach
Brian Kolze said about what Lucchetti's leadership means to the team. "She doesn't say a lot at times, but it is thought out and carries some weight when she does." "She does great things for the younger players on the team to follow."
Â
Through 29 games this season, Lucchetti has accumulated a .373 batting average, the highest through the first half of any season in her career. Lucchetti began the 2022 season fast, recording a hit in 11 of the first 12 games, including tallying three hits against Portland State and California. Along with leading the team in batting average, which currently ranks third-best in the West Coast Conference, Lucchetti leads the team with 11 stolen bases, tying her career-high set back in 2021, and has tallied a team-high .402 on-base percentage.
Â
"To get to where I am this season statistically, I have trusted that my coaches have prepared me, that my teammates will have my back no matter what, and that I have done everything necessary to prepare myself," Lucchetti stated regarding her success this season. "Being confident in my coaches, my teammates, and myself has been very influential in my success this season."
Â
"She is detailed oriented and aware of her skill set," Kolze stated on how Lucchetti has improved statistically this season. "When something breaks down, she is not afraid to attack a weakness to get better."
"Carly is one of the most down-to-earth, funny girls I have ever met," Freshman infielder
Delaney Scully stated. "She knows how to bring a smile to everyone's faces on and off the field. In my opinion, this is the best leadership quality someone could have. Even in the low moments of this sport, I can always look to Carly and realize that it's not the end of the world. She makes all of us better teammates but also better people."
Â
As the second half of the 2022 season begins, Lucchetti will continue to be the focal point offensively for the Tigers and will lead the team into conference play starting April 9.Â
