Tigers Head to Sacramento State

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers prepare for their midweek matchup with Sacramento State. 

Brandon Motheral leads the team in batting average (.339) with six extra-base hits and ten RBI. Thomas Gavello and Colby Canales have been the power hitters for the Tigers. Gavello has five home runs and 20 RBI, while Canales has four home runs and 11 RBI. They have nine extra-base hits; Canales has 40 total bases to lead the team. Gavello also leads the team in stolen bases with four. Chaz Myers leads the team in doubles with six and has 22 hits while scoring 19 runs, both team-leading numbers. 

Jackson Vaughan leads the Tigers in ERA (1.42), allowing only two earned runs in 12.2 innings. Hunter Hayes leads the team in innings pitched (28.2) and strikeouts (24) with six starts. Vaughan and Nick Swanson are tied for the team lead in appearances with 11. With 14.1 innings pitched, Swanson has the highest innings pitched for a pitcher without a start on the Tigers. 

Gavello is tied for third in the WCC in home runs, and he is tied for sixth in RBI. Myers is eighth in the conference in runs scored, tied for eighth in walks with 12 and tied for the conference lead in HBP with 8. 

The Hornets come into the Tuesday matchup on having dropped two to Grand Caynon over the weekend. The Hornets are hitting .267 as a team with 20 home runs and 60 extra base hits. The pitching staff has a 4.78 team ERA but they have tossed four shutouts already. 

Over the past ten games against the Hornets, the Tigers are 4-6 but have won four of the past seven. The two teams have not played a complete series since 2019, when the Tigers won three of four.
