Box Score 2 FRESNO, Calif. - The Pacific Women's Water Polo team kicked off its four-game road trip at Fresno State today, taking on Biola and Long Beach State.
This was the first meeting for the Tigers and the Biola Eagles. Pacific's first goal came from Mariana Duarte with an assist from Emma Myall, and Toula Falvey scored the second with another assist from Myall. At the end of one quarter, the game was tied two-all.
The Tigers scored six goals to the Eagles' zero in the second quarter. Goal scorers were Brianna Utas twice, Hila Futorian, Ana Martinez do Amaral on a penalty shot, do Amaral again with an assist from Utas and Ilyana Zlobinsky.
The third quarter saw another four goals for the Tigers and none for the Eagles. do Amaral scores on a Tigers powerplay, Hila Futorian scores, assisted by Szamira Koppány and then Futorian scores again. The final goal of the third comes from Lucia Sarimsakci on another Tigers powerplay.
The final quarter brought three goals for each team. Zlobinsky adds the first of the quarter for the Tigers. Myall takes advantage of a Tigers powerplay and scores. Zlobinsy scores with one second left in the game on a final powerplay.
Clara Vulpisi had seven saves throughout the game, and Isabelle Knittle had three.
In the second game of the day, the Tigers faced the Beach of Long Beach State for the second time in 2022. The Beach took the win today with a final score of 11-7.
In the first quarter, the Beach scored two, and Pacific scored two; the first was on a powerplay by Toula Falvey, assisted by Lucy Davis, and the second was on a powerplay by Brianna Utas, and Szamira Koppany had the assist.
In the second, the Beach scored two, and Pacific's lone goal came from Utas, assisted by Davis.
Long Beach State scored four in the third quarter. Mariana Duarte scored the Tigers' only goal in the quarter.
The Tigers put up a fight in the fourth, scoring three goals to match the Beach's three. On a powerplay, Davis scored the Tigers' first goal of the quarter. Koppany assisted Davis on her second goal of the quarter. The final score of the quarter for the Tigers came from Koppany.
Goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi had 11 saves throughout the game.
The team travels to Santa Clara to play at the Sullivan Aquatics Center on Sunday. They'll play Marist at 10:30 a.m. and Brown at 12:30 p.m.
The Tigers battled the Marist Red Foxes in January of 2020, winning a close one, 12-11. Pacific holds a 5-1 lifetime record against the Red Foxes.
Pacific hasn't faced Brown since 2014, when they lost 10-12. The Tigers have a lifetime record against the Bears of 1-3.
