STOCKTON, Calif. – Back in action for the first time since the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off, the Pacific women's basketball team (4-3) hosts undefeated UNLV (7-0) at 2 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The previous two games between the two squads have been decided by a total of three points, including a double-overtime win 77-75 in 2020.
Junior
Liz Smith leads the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game. Sophomore
Anaya James is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game and leads the team in assists with 31. Sophomore
Elizabeth Elliott averages 6.4 rebounds per game to lead the team. Senior
Sam Ashby leads the team in steals with 12, and junior
Cecilia Holmberg leads the team in blocks with five.
Smith is third in the WCC in scoring, second in threes made per game, and three-point shooting percentage. James is eighth in scoring and leads the conference in assists per game at 6.2. Ashby is tied for fourth in the conference with 1.7 steals per game. Holmberg is tenth in steals per game at 1.3 and tied for eighth in blocks per game at 0.8. Pacific is second in the conference in scoring at 72.4 points, rebounding at 42.3 per game and three-point shooting percentage at 38.7.
The Lady Rebels are off to a 7-0 start, their best in 32 years after winning the UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament. UNLV was picked to finish at the top of the conference before the season, and the Lady Rebels are living up to that billing to start this season. UNLV averages 80.0 points per game while holding opponents to 58.0 points per game. Desi-Rae Young leads the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game. Nneka Obiazor and Essence Booker both are in double-digit scoring as well.
