STOCKTON, Calif. – A second-half comeback turned into overtime heartbreak for the Pacific women's basketball team (5–6), as the Tigers fell 69-66 against Saint Mary's (7–4).
The Tigers recovered from a six-point halftime deficit to take a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The two teams battled it out in the fourth, with the Tigers taking an eight-point lead with just under four minutes remaining.
The Gaels would go on an 11-5 run to tie the game with 23 seconds left in regulation. The defining moment of the Gaels' run was a four-shot, three-offensive rebound flurry that allowed Saint Mary's to bring the game within one. The Tigers would go one of two on free throws on the other end of the court to make it a two-point lead. Pacific fouled with 23 seconds remaining, and Makena Mastora sank both to send the game into overtime.
Mastora started the scoring again in overtime with a three; sophomore
Anaya James responded with a mid-range jumper to make it a one-point game. A Saint Mary's turnover led to a layup from senior
Sam Ashby to give Pacific a brief lead. Saint Mary's responded with a layup to retake the lead. Both teams had opportunities to score with time winding down, but Saint Mary's added to the lead with a layup at the 38-second mark. Pacific was able to get multiple threes off in the final 38 seconds but could not find the tying basket.
The Pacific stats leaders included James, with 13 points and nine assists. Sophomore
