MORAGA, Calif. – In the lone match of the week, the Pacific volleyball team faces off against Saint Mary's in a crucial West Coast Conference contest on Friday, Oct. 28, at the McKeon Pavilion.
The Tigers (12-10, 4-6) continue to lead the conference offensively, tallying a league-high 1,117 kills through 22 matches this season. Since the 2011 season, the team has surpassed 1,000 kills in a season 11 times, including reaching the mark in nine-straight seasons from 2011 to 2019.
The highest total the Tigers reached during that span was in the 2012 season when the team recorded 1,590 kills in the final season competing in the Big West Conference.
The Tigers have used a balanced offensive attack throughout the season, as four team members have accumulated at least 100 kills. Leading the team and ranking second in the conference with 327, Alexa Edwards has tallied double-digit kills in 20 matches this season, recording a career-best 3.80 kills per set ratio in the process.
Biamba Kabengele, Darina Kumanova, and Ramonni Cook have also reached the 100-kill mark this season, as Kabengele ranks second on the team with 184. At the same time, Kumanova (166) and Cook (140) have also contributed to the team's offensive production.
Defensively, Jadyn Tubbs leads the back line for the Tigers, accumulating a team-high 3.52 digs per set. Registering 216 digs in 15 matches played this season, Tubbs has tallied 1,756 career digs and is 151 digs away from surpassing Julie Magud and becoming the program's all-time leader in digs.
Saint Mary's enters Friday's contest in a tie for fifth place in the conference standings after defeating Santa Clara in straight sets on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Despite the win over the Broncos, the Gaels (7-11, 4-6) have struggled as of late, as the team has only earned one victory in the last six matches.
Hawley Harrer continues to lead the team offensively, recording a team-high 212 kills through 18 matches for the Gaels this season. Harrer ranks 10th in the conference in kills while tallying 3.37 kills per set for seventh best in the league. Defensively, Kristen Erland has added a team-high 45 blocks and ranks sixth in the conference with 1.02 blocks per set.
The Tigers defeated the Gaels earlier this season, earning a 3-0 sweep at the Alex G. Spanos Center on September 30. The Tigers are 15-11 against the Gaels since the first-ever meeting during the 1979 season, winning eight matches since rejoining the conference in 2013.
