SAN JOSE, Calif. – A tough night offensively put the women's volleyball program in an early two-set hole that proved insurmountable - as Pacific stole a set from San Jose State, but ultimately lost 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 15-25, 25-20) to the Spartans Friday night from Spartan Gym.
Despite the collectively low hitting percentage (.131%), junior
Nicole Zake and freshman
Suzy Kemle were able to find individual success. The former led the team with 13 kills, the only Tiger (3-2) above ten kills on the night, on an efficient .244 hitting percentage. Combined with ten digs defensively and the outside hitter notched her fourth straight double-double.
Kemle meanwhile tallied eight kills on a .500 clip to set a new personal best. Completing the bulk of the Pacific attack was sophomore
Julia Porath and her nine kills and sophomore
Alessia Couchond's 25 assists as the primary setter and three service aces.

Bella Gutierrez again led the team in the digs category, this time adding 11 to her season ledger. Sitting now at 88 digs she's on pace to hit 528 come season's end, which would put her second in program history in a single season.
Pacific concludes the SJSU Invite tomorrow with a program first match against LSU New Orleans, who got swept by UC Riverside in their opening match earlier in the day. First serve from Spartan Gym is set for 6 p.m. but will not be streamed, meaning fans will need to follow along via live stats or social media.
