Dons Take Down Tigers in Series Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. – Looking for their first series victory of conference play, the Pacific baseball team was unable to take the finale from San Francisco (18-20, 13-8) on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Dons, 17-4, in the finale at Klein Family Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Through the first two innings of play, neither team recorded as the game remained scoreless heading into the third. Shortly thereafter, the Dons would break the contest open with seven runs on three hits and one Tiger error in the top of the third, which included a grand slam from Jacob Westerman.
  • Aiming to trim their lead at the plate, senior Alex LeForestier pushed across Pacific's first run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly to right field in the home half of third as sophomore Thomas Gavello scored to cut the deficit to 7-1.
  • Adding to their advantage, USF tacked on four runs on three hits in the top of the fourth followed by six runs on six hits in the top of the fifth to hold a 17-1 lead through four and a half innings complete.
  • Hungry for a comeback, junior Ben Nemivant launched a no-doubt, two-run home run down the right field line in the bottom of the fifth as the Tigers trailed 17-3 moving into the sixth.
  • With no action on either side in the seventh, Pacific plated their final run of the afternoon on an RBI single from junior James Arakawa in the bottom of the eighth as senior Wyatt Hoffman came around to score on the base hit.
  • Unable to find any late magic down the stretch, USF hung on to take game three and secure the series victory by a final score of 17-4.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Despite the loss, seven of the nine Pacific starters were able to notch at least one hit against the Dons on Sunday.
  • With one hit a piece, Arakawa (10) and senior Charles Middleton (15) each extended their hitting streaks. Additionally, three Tigers have reached base in 10 or more straight games: Arakawa, Gavello (11) and Middleton (17).
  • On the basepaths, Arakawa notched at least one stolen base in all three games against the Dons as the Walnut, Calif. native is now tied with Hoffman for the team lead with eight stolen bases on the year.

UP NEXT:
Pacific will return to the diamond next weekend when they travel to the Bay Area to face Santa Clara in a three-game set.
