Gonzaga Blanks Pacific in Series Opener

SPOKANE, Wash. – Continuing their road trip after traveling to San Diego last weekend, the Pacific baseball team (7-15, 0-7) could not get back in the win column in their series opener against Gonzaga (14-10, 5-2) on Thursday night, falling to the Bulldogs, 9-0, at the Patterson Baseball Complex and Coach Steve Hertz Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Despite a single from senior Alex LeForestier in the top of the first, the Tiger offense could not find any momentum at the plate throughout the night, totaling only two hits the rest of the way for a total of three hits overall in the game.
  • Gonzaga plated their first run of the evening on a single from second baseman Mason Marenco in the bottom of the third as the Bulldogs led 1-0 through three innings complete.
  • After adding another run in the fourth, GU tacked on three runs in the home half of the fifth on four hits and one Tiger error as they maintained a 5-0 advantage after the inning.
  • Continuing their attack, the Bulldogs pushed across three more insurance runs in the seventh followed by their final run of the game in the eighth inning on an RBI double from catcher Tyler Rando.
  • Experiencing little resistance from the Tiger lineup down the stretch, Gonzaga would go on to shutout Pacific in game one, 9-0, as Bulldog starter Alek Jacob dominated on the mound with 11 strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Coming out of the bullpen, junior Zach Patterson recorded his third consecutive outing with no earned runs allowed, pitching 1.0 inning with one hit and one strikeout against Gonzaga on Friday.
  • At the plate, senior Luke Price notched his first hit since Mar. 21 against Portland with a sharp single into left field in the top of the eighth inning.
