STOCKTON, Calif. – The No. 23 Pacific women's water polo team (3-11) got back to their winning ways on Friday evening, taking down Azusa Pacific (4-9), 13-7 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
Returning to their home facility for the first time since Feb. 8, the Tigers recorded their first win since their victory over No. 24 Marist on Jan. 25 at the Michigan Tournament.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
First Half-
- Kicking off the scoring, sophomore Toula Falvey netted her first goal of the night at the 6:50 mark in the opening period to give UOP the early 1-0 lead.
- Despite the Cougars getting on the board with a goal of their own, sophomore Ana Martinez do Amaral scored back-to-back goals midway through the period as the Tigers held a 3-2 advantage with 3:07 remaining in the first period.
- Following two more goals from juniors Savannah Fitzgerald and Natalie Hosmer, Pacific led Azusa Pacific, 5-2, at the end of one.
- Hitting their stride, Fitzgerald opened the scoring for the Tigers in the second period with her second goal of the half at 6:37 before sophomore Lucy Davis netted her first of the match at 5:17.
- Showing out, Fitzgerald completed the first-half hat trick with her third goal at 2:24. Ultimately, Pacific was in command at the halftime break, leading the Cougars, 8-2.
Second Half-
- Seeming almost unstoppable, Fitzgerald tallied her fourth and final goal of the contest to begin the third period of play, scoring at the 6:21 mark to extend the Tiger lead to 9-2.
- Just a few minutes later, Falvey added another goal herself when she scored with 4:01 remaining in the third.
- With the help of another goal from Davis, UOP was on top of the Cougars, 11-4, at the end of three.
- Joining the party, senior Emma Myall netted her lone goal of the match at 5:19 in the fourth period, pushing the Pacific lead to eight.
- Pouring it on, junior Kamryn Lucero notched just her second goal of the season with 4:00 left on the game clock.
- Cruising down the stretch, No. 23 Pacific defeated Azusa Pacific by a final score of 13-7.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- After missing some time with a broken thumb, Fitzgerald displayed her skill on offense by pouring in a team-high four goals.
- Additionally, Falvey, do Amaral and Davis each added three goals apiece in the win over Azusa Pacific.
- Dominating out of the gates, the Tigers won all four sprints to begin each period of play.
