LAST TIME OUT:
- Having already surpassed their win total in conference play with a victory over San Diego on Feb. 2, the Tigers secured their sixth WCC win of the season when they defeated San Francisco, 60-48, on Thursday, Feb. 6 at The War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
- It was a historic night in the City by the Bay as Pacific defeated USF for the first time on The Hilltop since Dec. 5, 2007.
- Putting up on of his most dominant stat lines of the season, senior Jahlil Tripp was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after recording a new career-high with 20 rebounds. The 6'5" guard also added 8 points, 2 assists, one block and one steal.
- Providing support for their teammates, freshman Daniss Jenkins and junior Justin Moore each added 9 points for the Tigers while junior James Hampshire notched 8 points and 12 rebounds in the victory over the Dons.
- Seeming to be the x-factor all night, freshman Pierre Crockrell II also tied his season and career-high with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting in just 15 minutes of action.
- Putting forth a team effort in the win, Pacific led San Francisco in second chance points (4-2), bench points (23-8), points in the paint (30-26) and fast break points (6-3).
THINGS TO KNOW:
- Tripp's performance against the Dons did not go unnoticed around the conference as his efforts marked the first 20-rebound game by a WCC player since USF's Cole Dickerson pulled down 20 against Montana on Nov. 30, 2012. It also was the first 20-rebound performance in a WCC contest since BYU's Brandon Davies recorded 22 versus San Diego on Dec. 31, 2011. Overall, the 6'5" senior currently leads the conference in overall rebounding (8.5) and in WCC play (9.4).
- Fresh off tying his season-high with 12 points, Crockrell continues to show tremendous progress as a floor general as he leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6) while also placing eleventh in assists per game (3.4).
- Pacific leads the WCC in scoring defense (63.9), field goal percentage defense (40.5), rebounding defense (28.3), offensive rebound percentage (.336) and defensive rebound percentage (.800). Overall, the Tigers also place second in the conference in rebounding offense (37.0), rebounding margin (+8.7), offensive rebounds (288/11.1), and blocked shots (101/3.9).
- The Tigers are enjoying one of their most successful seasons in recent memory as UOP has recorded six wins in conference play for just the third time since 2013-2014. In just his fourth year at the helm, head coach Damon Stoudamire has already surpassed his highest previous win total (14) by four games as Pacific looks to reach 20 victories for the first time since the 2009-10 season, which saw the Tigers finish 23-12/12-4.
SCOUTING THE WAVES:
- Junior Colbey Ross is averaging a WCC-best 7.4 assists per game, placing him as one of fifty members on the Lou Henson Award midseason watch list. Nationally, the 6'1" is first in total assists (178) and fourth in assists per game. Ross also has more career assists than any junior in the country with 596 (second place is 47 assists behind). Additionally, he is just 32 assists away from entering all-time top 10 in WCC history.
- The trio of Ross (second in the WCC at 19.4 ppg), Kameron Edwards (third at 17.5) and Kessler Edwards (12th at 13.9) has scored 63.7% of the Waves' points this season. If you add Skylar Chavez to the mix (20th at 11.4), that quartet has scored 77.8% of the Waves' points this year.
- Both Edwards, Kessler (fourth/7.5) and Kameron (fifth/7.1), are in the top five in the WCC in rebounding. Kessler also leads the WCC in blocked shots (1.5).
- Pepperdine ranks first nationally in free throw percentage at 80.6%. Ross leads the WCC at 86.2% and has made 137 free throws, fourth-most in the nation.
- The Waves have not won at the Spanos Center since a 65-63 overtime victory on Feb. 13, 2016. Overall, the Tigers hold a 4-2 record against Pepperdine in Stockton since rejoining the WCC in 2013-14.
