STOCKTON, Calif. – Andrew Cates is staying with Pacific athletics, but returning to the hardwood as the men's basketball Director of Operations after spending a season working in the same role for the water polo teams during 2025-26.

Before reaching Stockton, Cates had gained experience doing operations roles for Power Four programs Miami (FL) and Kansas after spending multiple seasons as a basketball operations coordinator at Seton Hall.

In this new role, he will be handling all logistics for the team including travel planning, team logistics and general operations.

With Cates' addition to the program, Head Coach Dave Smart has fully buffed out his coaching staff for the upcoming season. He is joined by returning coach Garrett Bridges, Brandon Cole, and Video Analysis Director Aiki Kitamoto while bringing on Cates and new coaches Howard Washington and Mike Kelly.
