Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tripp's Big Night Leads Tigers Past Gaels in Marathon

STOCKTON, Calif. – It was a historic night with the 1978-79 team in the house, but this year's team made history of their own as the Tigers (14-4, 2-0 WCC) grinded out a 107-99 win in four overtimes over Saint Mary's (14-3, 1-1 WCC) Saturday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center led by a career-high 39 points from Jahlil Tripp.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half
  • Pierre Crockrell II earned his second start for Pacific and second is as many games, leading the Tigers in the early going with four points prior to the first timeout.
  • Pacific out rebounded the Gaels in the first half 18-12 - including 12-7 on the defensive glass - and outworked the Gaels off the bench to the tune of a 17-5 advantage in bench points and a 14-4 advantage in fastbreak points.
  • Jahbril Price-Noel led the Tigers with 10 points in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting.
Second Half
  • Pacific never let Saint Mary's stray too far out in front, staying within a couple points every step of the way, but it was just the beginning.
  • Tripp exploded from just eight points at the halftime break on the way to his career night in front of a crowd of 2,577 in Stockton.
  • Daniss Jenkins reached double digits in scoring for the third time this season with a free throw at the 10:06 mark of the second half on the back end of a shooting foul.

Overtime
  • Pacific kept up with the same intensity shown in the previous 40 minutes on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.
  • Tripp was clutch in the extra period to keep the Tigers hanging around. The Brooklyn, New York native became the first player since Roberto Gallinat last season to put up 30 points, ending his night with 39 to fall five short of the Pacific single-game record.
  • The Tigers forced a third extra period for the second time this season (vs. Boise State, November 23) and a fourth extra period to make it the longest game in Division I this season.
  • Chivichyan showed the ice in his veins once more with a jumper at the 1:20 mark to tie the game at 87 in the third extra frame.
  • Pacific doubled up the Gaels with a 16-8 points advantage in the fourth overtime with 13 of those points coming from the free throw line.
