STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team claimed a narrow, 62-59, victory over Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday night en route to an improved record of 7-1 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Tigers improve to 8-3 on the season, while the Titans fall to 3-6.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
First Half
- The Tigers jumped out to a quick 6-0 run in the first 1:44 following three made baskets in the paint. Jahlil Tripp scored four points, while Amari McCray scored on a jumper.
- Cal State Fullerton went on a 9-3 run over the next four minutes of play (13:46-17:58) to tie the game for the first of four times in the contest.
- The two squads would battle back and forth with Austin Vereen regaining the lead for the Tigers on a made free throw (10-9) at 13:22. The Titans answered with 5-0 run to take their largest lead of the game (4 pts).
- Pacific remained within four points of the Titans and at 11:23 the Tigers began an 8-4 run that knotted the game at 20-20 with just 4:52 remaining in the half.
- The Orange and Black held on to its first-half lead, wrapping up the first 20 minutes at 31-26.
- Tripp led all players with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
- As a team, Pacific shot a stellar 52 percent (13-25) from the field, while holding the Titans to 44 percent accuracy in the field.
Second Half
- CSUF went on another significant scoring run of 8-4 to open the second half, tying the game for a third time at 34-34 at 16:15.
- Pacific followed up with a 19-10 run that gave the Tigers their largest lead of nine points with just under 10 minutes left to play. During the six and a half minute span, Gary Chivichyan sank three three-pointers and scored on a jumper for a total of 11 points.
- The score was tied a final time at 57-57. Pacific went on to outscore the Titans, 5-2 to close out the game.
- Chivichyan finished with a team-high 14 second-half points.
- Pacific allowed an opponent to shoot over 45 percent from the field for just the second time this season, allowing CSUF to shot 47.9 percent.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Tripp led the Tigers with his second double-double of the season, totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds, en route to being named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game. Tripp shot 7-for-13 from the field and 2-for-5 from the free throw line. He also totaled two assists and two steals on the night.
- Chivichyan also scored 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor, which included a 3-for-5 effort from long range, and 1-for-2 from the charity stripe.
- Justin Moore scored in double-figures for the ninth time this season, totaling 10 points against the Titans.
- Pierre Crockrell II dished out a team-high three assists.
AS A TEAM
- Pacific held the edge in assists (11-5), steals (5-3) and blocks (4-2).
- The Tigers shot 50 percent or higher from the field for the fourth time this season, going 24-for-48 against CSUF.
