STOCKTON, Calif. - The men's water polo team fell within inches in a double-overtime thriller, 14-13, to Long Beach State on Friday night.

Pacific surrenders it's first loss of the season following Friday's loss dropping them to an overall record of 10-10 and 3-1 in GCC play. Long Beach picks up it's first conference win and improves to 8-11 overall, 1-2 in the GCC.

In Case You Missed It:

• A game-high four goal performance by Luke Pavillard was not enough as the Tigers could not rally for the victory against their conference foes. 
• Long Beach jumped out to a 3-1 lead to end the first period and would retain the lead for the majority of the match. 
• UOP would outscore the Beach, 5-3, in the final frame to send the match into overtime but LBSU would go on to score a pair of goals in the first and second overtime period to seal the game.

First Period:

• The Tigers were quickly knocking on the door to start out the first period. Pacific totalled seven shots in the first eight minutes. 
• Bogdan Djerkovic netted in UOP's first goal of the contest at the 2:46 mark on a powerplay drive following a LBSU exclusion. 
• The Orange and Black just could not find the back end however, as four of their seven shots would hit the post holding them to one score and an early 3-1 lead for the 49ers. 

Second Period:

• Luke Pavillard (7:33) sent a rocket to the top right corner to kick off the second period as the Tigers chipped at the lead, 3-2.
• Long Beach would cede an exclusion which set Andrea De Nardi up with a touch pass powerplay goal (6:27) to tie up the match at three a piece.
• The 49ers would respond with a streak of three unanswered goals, however, to pull away from the Orange and Black approaching the end of the half. 
• Luis Araya scored a much needed goal for the Tigers with 1:22 to go but Long Beach's Garret Zaan would punch in a late goal to push the 49ers' lead back to three, 7-4, heading into halftime.

Third Period:

• The Orange and Black played solid defense on Long Beach State's opening possession heading out of halftime but would give up a goal off a second chance shot that hit the post. This pinned the 49ers with their largest lead of the match, 8-4.
• Araya quickly answered on the following play (6:18) on a solo goal at even strength.
• Pavillard registered a goal straight on from deep at the 4:41 mark to help swing the momentum back to UOP as the Tigers clawed back, 8-6.
• The Tigers would trade a goal with LBSU as De Nardi scored off a powerplay assist from Eli Lule with :38 to play. 
• Keeper John Hedges made three spectacular saves on the final drive of the period to send Pacific into the fourth period with the score at 9-7. Hedges made four of his 10 saves on the night in the third quarter. 

Fourth Period:

• The Orange and Black went on a spree in the fourth period assembling a 3-0 run to take their first lead of the night, 10-9. Pavillard would orchestrate the Tiger attack scoring back-to-back goals in the sixth and fifth minute. 
• The match would take a turn as Luis Araya picked up his third and final exclusion of the match at the 3:33 mark signaling the end of the junior's night. The 49ers scored on the next drive to tie the game.
• Long Beach would go on to score at with 1:39 to go but would be carded on the following Tiger drive (:41) as Head Coach James Graham called a timeout.
• The Orange and Black would weather the storm, however, as Ege Colak delivered in crunch time racking in a goal off an assist from Andrea De Nardi for the equalizer. 
• A :07 exclusion on De Nardi put UOP in bad position reaching the final moments of regulation but Long Beach would fail to record a shot in time sending the match into extras. 

Overtime:

• The 49ers would capitalize on an exclusion by Colak (2:22) to grab the lead, 13-12. 
• The Tigers would have four chances at tying the match in the first overtime period but could not score a goal keeper Marwan Darwish made four saves. 
• An exclusion at the 2:34 mark of the second OT on Luke Pavillard sent the junior out of the pool with his third of the night. Long Beach would score shortly after that for a two-point advantage, 2:16.
• Colak would relieve the Tigers once again with 1:53 to go as UOP cut the lead in half.
• A questionable call following a Long Beach exclusion waived off a Colak goal with :02 to go. Colak would attempt a shot but the gameclock would expire and end the match.

Notables:

• Pavillard led all scorers Friday night with four goals. The Perth, Austrailia native now has 14 hat tricks on the year.
• Five Tigers scored multiple goals in the match: Araya (2), Colak (3), De Nardi (2), Djerkovic (2), and Pavillard (4).
• 30 exclusions in total were called in the match. 11 exclusions were called in the double overtime period.

• The Tigers host their final home match of the season next Saturday as they take on the Spartans of San Jose State.
• San Jose State is 6-14 overall, 0-2 in conference play. SJSU hosts No. 7 Pepperdine on Saturday and Long Beach on Sunday.
