TUSCON, Ariz. - Catcher James Free II has been named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, the publication announced this morning. Free becomes the first Pacific Tiger since John Haberman in 2010 to be named to Collegiate Baseball's All-American list and is one of three West Coast Conference athletes to earn the plaudit this year.
Free put together a .343 batting average this season while leading the WCC in home runs (14) and runs batted in (54) during the regular season. The Walnut, Calif. native also ranked 25th in the NCAA in slugging percentage at a .652 clip while pacing team in hits (62) and on base percentage (.471).
He led all WCC catchers in home runs, extra base hits, total bases, slugging percentage, RBI, batting average, and OPS during the regular season. Free was the WCC freshman leader in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, homers, RBI, doubles and total bases.
Following the season Free was named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team.
