Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Ryan Schalch went 3-for-3 with a double, and James Free II drove in two, but USF took the rubber game of a three-game set Sunday, 7-5, at Benedetti Diamond in San Francisco.
The Dons scored six runs, five unearned off Reynoso (5-7), in the third inning and the Tigers seventh-inning comeback bid fell short.
Reynoso allowed eight hits and two earned runs in six plus innings, with four strikeouts. Vince Arobio tossed two shutout innings out of the bullpen.
USF starter Grant Goodman (4-4) picked up the win, going 5.1 innings with one earned run allowed. The Tigers pieced up three runs off the USF middle relief corps, but Joey Carney tolled 1.2 innings of shutout ball for his fourth save.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Schalch singled and Blake Barry added one-out single, reaching second on a bobble in the outfield. Lucas Halstead followed with a two-run single up the middle.
But in the third the Dons posted six runs. The inning opened with a fielding error, and after three straight singles tied the game at 2-2, a sacrifice fly gave the Dons a 3-2 lead. Michael Perri added an RBI fielder's choice, and Manny Ramirez, Jr. homered to left for two unearned runs before Reynoso finally escaped.
Reynoso posted zeros through the sixth, and in the seventh Pacific picked up three runs to close within 6-5. After opening with back-to-back walks, Kevin Sandri singled through the left side for the first run, and Free delivered a two-run single.
Reynoso departed after a lead-off walk in the seventh, and Dominic Miroglio singled to set up first and third. Arobio coaxed a double-play, but a run scored, which was charged to Reynoso, before Arobio got a fly out to end the frame.
Barry doubled in the eighth but was stranded, and the Tigers went 1-2-3 in the ninth to wrap West Coast Conference play at 6-21.
The Tigers will enter Monday's season finale at UC Davis at 18-34 overall.
USF improves to 29-28 overall, 11-16 in WCC play.
