IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 11 Pacific women's water polo team cruised to an 11-5 victory over No. 20 Loyola Marymount on Saturday at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
Kyra Christmas posted a hat trick, while Rachel Krieger and Kennedy Watson each scored twice. Karolina Hlavata, Catie Mahnke, Viktoria Szmodics and Ellen Tiedemann also all scored for Pacific.
Alexis Hollinrake recorded five saves as Pacific improved to 6-5 on the year. LMU falls to 4-8.
Christmas tallied the game's opening goal off an assist from Krieger, but Morgan Molloy answered back with 2:50 to go in the first to tie the game. Watson responded on the Tigers next possession with a goal set up by Dorland.
In the second, Christmas struck again, with Hlavata picking up the assist and Szmodics tallied unassisted for a 4-1 Pacific lead. Caitlin Schafer picked up a goal for the Lions, but Krieger responded right away restoring a three-goal lead off an assist from Duarte. The third goal from Christmas provided a 6-2 lead, but Schafer tallied again for LMU. Hlavata added a power-play goal with 44 seconds to go in the half as Pacific led 7-4 at the break.
Kiana Etrata scored a 6-on-5 goal for LMU in the third, but Tiedemann answered back with 4:03 to go in the period for an 8-4 Pacific advantage. Krieger converted a 6-on-5 advantage for Pacific as Pacific headed into fourth.
Watson scored her second for a 10-4 Pacific lead, with Mahnke picking up the helper. And then Mahnke tallied with 5:29 to go. Annika Armstrong provided LMU's final goal with 23 seconds left to settle on the final margin.
Claire Wright recorded seven saves in goal for the Lions.
Pacific converted all three of the Tigers 6-on-5 power plays in the game.
The Tigers will play again Saturday at 5:15 at Corona del Mar Pool. Pacific will face the winner of UC San Diego and San Diego State.
