DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 11 Pacific water polo team completed a 3-0 weekend at the Aggie Shootout with a 9-6 win over No. 16 San Jose State Sunday afternoon. Karolina Hlavata posted a hat trick for the Tigers while Rachel Krieger added two goals.
Brinnley Barthels, Kyra Christmas, Viktoria Szmodics and Viktoria Tamas each added goals for Pacific.
Alexis Hollinrake recorded nine saves in the cage, and also picked up a steal.
Barthels opened the scoring for Pacific four minutes in, but with 25 seconds to go in the quarter, Jordan Milich-Misikini tied the game at 1-1 for San Jose State.
In the second, Krieger drew an exclusion on her defender and then scored on the power play for a 2-1 lead. Pacific drew two more 6-on-5 opportunities in the second quarter and capitalized on both with a goals from Hlavata and Christmas for a 4-1 lead, 2:24 before halftime. Szmodics added on another for Pacific 11 seconds before the break as Pacific led 5-1 at the midpoint.
Jacqui Maisey and McKenna Yates tallied in the third for the Spartans as San Jose State pulled within 5-3. Tamas responded with a finish to restore a three-goal lead, but Yates struck again, cutting the Tigers lead to 6-4. But Hlavata provided a three goal cushion again with her second of the game and Pacific led 7-4 headed into the fourth.
Sierra Painter and Krieger traded goals early in the fourth before Painter connected again, but Halva closed it our with her third goal for the hat trick and a 9-6 victory.
San Jose State keeper Katelynn Thompson posted 10 saves for the Spartans.
Pacific improves to 5-4 on the season while SJSU falls to 3-8.
The Tigers will be back in action at UC Irvine's Barbara Kalbus Invitational next Friday through Sunday. The Tigers will open play against No. 7 Hawai'i on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Corona del Mar Pool. Pacific will face either No. 2 Southern Cal or No. 20 Loyola Marymount on Saturday morning in the bracketed tournament.
