DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 11 Pacific women's water polo team won a pair of matches Saturday at the Aggie Shootout, downing No. 12 UC Davis, 11-8, behind a hat trio from Karolina Hlavata, and topping No. 24 CSU Bakesfield 10-8 as Kyra Christmas and Kennedy Watson each scored twice.
Christmas, Viktoria Tamas and Ellen Tiedemann each scored twice against UC Davis, while Brinnley Barthels and Mariana Duarte also scored one goal each against the Aggies.
Duarte, Tamas, Tiedemann, Rachel Krieger and Viktoria Szmodics each posted a goal in the win over CSU Bakersfield.
Against the host Aggies, Alexis Hollinrake recorded 12 saves in goal to go with three steals as the Tigers posted their second win of the year over UC Davis.
Hlavata opened the scoring nearly four minutes in, off an assist from Christmas. With 2:17 to go in the first, Duarte finished a pass from Viktoria Szmodics for a 2-0 Pacific lead. Szmodics set up Viktoria Tamas with 17 seconds left and the Tigers carried a 3-0 edge into the second quarter.
UC Davis picked up a goal from Greta Kohlmoos early in the second, but Hlavata set-up a power-play goal from Barthels kicking off a flurry of goals. Kohlmoos answered for the Aggies on the next possession, before Tiedemann scored on Pacific's next chance for a 5-2 lead. UC Davis scored 19 seconds later as Paige Virgil tallied, but the Tigers responded 18 seconds after that with Hlavata's second for a 6-3 lead. It took the Aggies 14 seconds to score in response, as McKenna Hauss finished to close within two.
With 4:02 to go before halftime, Christmas stretched the lead to 7-4 before Annie Kutt and Kathleen Schafle scored for UC Davis before the break as the Tigers led 7-6.
Tamas tallied again early in the third, but Kohlmoos responded to make it a one-goal game once more. Hlavata struck back to provide a 9-7 margin.
In the fourth, Christmas stretched the lead to 10-7 before Kohlmoos posted her fourth. Tiedemann tallied again with 5:18 to go to restore the three-goal lead and the Tigers held on as Hollinrake recorded three saves and a steal in the fourth quarter.
In the nightcap, Krieger opened the scoring with an early goal off an assist from Christmas. Hlavata tallied unassisted to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead midway through the first. On a 6-on-5, Kennedy Watson scored off a pass from Tiedemann and Christmas tacked on a goal before the end of the period as the Tigers led 4-0 after the first quarter.
Christmas picked up her second goal in the second quarter before she set up Tamas with a power-play goal for a 6-0 Pacific lead. Jada Helberg put the Roadrunners on the board before Nicola Barrett added a pair of goals to bring CSU Bakersfield within 6-3. Watson struck again for a 7-3 margin, but Helberg's second closed the gap to 7-4 before halftime.
In the third, Szmodics provided a four-goal lead, but Ana Ruiz answered for Bakersfield. Christmas set up Duarte for a power-play goal to make it 9-5 headed into the fourth.
Tiedemann polished off feed from Hlavata in the fourth quarter, but Gabby Wiltse tallied twice to pul within 10-7. Cassandra Ream rounded out the scoring for CSU Bakersfield with 29 seconds left.
Hollinrake only needed to make two saves in three quarters, with one steal. Sam Pfaff made two saves in the fourth quarter with a steal.
Pacific improves to 4-4 on the season and will take on No. 16 San Jose State on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Davis.
