Streaking Tigers Score 11 In Blowout Victory

Box Score

Springfield, Mo. – Another huge win for the Pacific Tigers made them the highest-scoring team in all of Division I as Pacific trounced the Saint Louis Billikens 11-3.  The Tigers are now averaging 5.89 goals per game, well ahead of second-place Penn State's 5.50.  Pacific also kept their win streak going and have now won six in a row to move to 6-3.

The 11 goals today gave the Tigers 53 on the season, the second-highest scoring single year by any Pacific team ever despite there being nine games left to play.  Only 2006's 55 goals in 19 games was higher.  It was also the second game in a row that the Tigers recorded over 40 shots, with today's 46 breaking yesterday's record 43.

Laura Pujade picked up her sixth straight win with two saves before Jessie Niccum took over.  Pujade is 6-3 on the year with two shutouts.

Once again it was Marguerite van Wyk opening the scoring.  Her goal at 4:10 came on a shot from the left of the circle and gave her eight goals in the last three games.

It was also van Wyk's 11th goal this year, moving her into the top five in single-season goals by a Tiger with nine games left to play.  Her 28 points this year are fourth all-time.  Savannah Burns led the Tigers in scoring last year with 25 points, a total already surpassed by van Wyk.

Saint Louis answered 14 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.  Molly Feid had the goal, her third of the year.

The tie didn't last long thanks to Ash Rutherford's goal.  The freshman scored on a shot from ten yards out after a feed from Ali Campos, making it 2-1 at 7:49.

Saint Louis' Feid struck again at 14:22, tying the game.  Pujade made the first save on a short-range shot but the rebound went straight onto Feid's stick for the goal.

The back-and-forth play continued when Pacific took back the lead once again.  Van Wyk had a rocket shot that was knocked away by the goalie for the save at 19:10.  Alicia Muiños found the loose ball immediately and put it in the back of the net with ease for her fourth goal of the year, matching her single-season career best set in 2014.

Muiños added her fifth goal of the season two minutes later, stretching the Pacific lead to two goals for the first time in the game.  The Tigers took advantage of a Saint Louis green card to put the pressure on.  Rylee Comeau fed the ball across to Muiños at the opposite end of the net where she scored for her second career multi-goal game.

Just as the green card against the Billikens ended, Pacific scored again, making it 5-2 22 minutes into the game.  Rutherford put up her second goal of the day with Burns getting her second assist.  Rutherford received the ball in the middle of the circle just a few yards from goal before firing away.  The goal gave her 14 points on the year, including her single-season Tiger record eight assists.

For the second time in as many games, Sidney Brooks scored, making it 6-2 on a rebound goal.  Van Wyk had the first shot on a corner, with Brooks gathering the rebound and scoring on her own.

Pacific had 22 shots in the first half alone, allowing just four in that time.  Burns and van Wyk each outshot Saint Louis as individuals in the first half.  The Tigers scored on two of their four corners as well, making them nine for their last 17.

The second half began much like the first ended, with Pacific dominating the ball.  Saint Louis did manage to get one shot off at 44:15, their first shot since scoring 14 minutes into the game.

Comeau scored her first of the game at 50:05, making it 7-2.  Van Wyk had the assist, giving her four points on the day.

It was Ali Campos' turn to get in on the scoring soon thereafter as her sixth of the year made it 8-2.  It was her fifth goal in the last six games and came off a Burns assist.

Comeau picked up a second goal at 57:08.  Campos assisted on the goal, feeding the ball across after a blocked Saint Louis shot started a break.

Carly Kissinger of the Billikens scored on a rebound following a penalty corner to make it 9-3.  The goal came on Saint Louis' eighth shot of the game.

Muiños' third goal made it three games in a row that a Tiger has put up a hat trick as she scored at 61:15.  That goal also broke double digits for Pacific, the second time in their history that has happened as well as the second time in the last two games.  Tayler Silacci picked up an assist on the goal as well.

Pacific's 11th goal went to Allie Konkol, who scored for the first time in her Tiger career at 62:36.  Konkol pounced on a rebound for the goal that ended the game's scoring.

The Tigers have one more game in Missouri left, taking on Missouri State tomorrow at 9:00 am.  They will then head to Davidson, North Carolina for games against Appalachian State and Davidson next Saturday and Sunday.
