Historic Day For Tigers In Huge 12-0 Win

Box Score

Springfield, Mo. – The Pacific Tigers demolished all their single-game records today, defeating LIU Brooklyn 12-0 in the highest-scoring game in Pacific history.  The Tigers previous record was eight goals, set earlier this year against Vermont.  The 43 shots by Pacific were also the most in program history, with shots on goal ending at 21-1.  The Tigers are 5-3 now, with Brooklyn falling to 0-6.

The Tigers also scored on seven of their 13 corners in the game to make it five wins in a row.  The Tigers have scored five goals or more in all of those games and are averaging 7.4 per game in that time.  Pacific allowed only five shots in the game, with the first for Brooklyn coming at 64:57.

Pacific's offense now has 42 goals this year after scoring 34 all of last year.  This year's total through eight games is the third-most in a single season for the Tigers with ten games to play.  They have also recorded 39 assists already this year, their most ever.

For the second consecutive game, Marguerite van Wyk picked up a hat trick as she scored four goals in the first half alone.  The sophomore is one of just eight players in Pacific history to record a hat trick and one of only two to have multiple hat tricks, along with Jill Moore.  Only Vianney Campos has ever scored more goals in a game.  Van Wyk now has 10 goals on the season, the seventh-most in a season by the Tigers.  Only two players in all of D-I have scored more goals this year than van Wyk.

Just over a minute into the game the Tigers took the lead. van Wyk scored her seventh goal of the year to continue the scoring outburst that has seen her put up 11 points in the last four games.  She would end the day with 22 points in Pacific's five-game winning streak thanks to her ten-point game.

The goal came off a corner, with Hannah Tvergyak and Hayley Kilfoil getting the assists.  The assist gave Tvergyak her sixth point of the year, setting a new career high in just the eighth game of the season.

Alicia Muiños made it 2-0 at 4:24 on Pacific's fifth shot in the first five minutes.  Muiños jumped on a rebound after Savannah Burns' initial shot from a corner was blocked for the goal.

Van Wyk made it her third multi-goal game of the year at 9:33, scoring on a corner once again.  The assists again went to Emma Leach and Ash Rutherford.

Rutherford added another assist when Leach scored 15 minutes into the game, making it 4-0.  Leach would end up with four points in the game, her highest-scoring game ever.  Rutherford finished one point off her career high with three assists.

For the first time this year, the Tigers scored five goals in a half as Sidney Brooks potted her first of the season on Pacific's 12th shot.  Brooks set up on the right side of the circle and beat the goalie with a low shot for the goal.  Muiños assisted on the goal.

Van Wyk put up a first-half hat trick when she scored again at 27:28.  This time, Emma Leach and Katharine Egan had the assists as the Tigers made it five goals in their first eight corners of the game.

Savannah Burns and van Wyk scored within a few seconds of each to make it 8-0.  Burns' goal came first at 28:25 as she fired away from the right side of the circle for her sixth of the year, with van Wyk assisting.  Van Wyk's fourth goal, the second-most in a single game in Pacific history, came just seconds later.  That goal also made van Wyk the seventh player in Pacific history with double-digit goals in a season.

The eight-goals in the first half tied the most Pacific had ever scored in a single game, a record set earlier this year against Vermont.  The Tigers also recorded 24 shots and allowed zero in the first half, just three off from their most shots in a single game in the Andy Smith era.

Kilfoil set a new single-game scoring record for Pacific when she scored the team's ninth of the year off a corner, making Pacific 6-for-9 on penalty corners.

The Tigers broke double-digits for the first time in school history on Axelle Steffen's goal at 40:27.  It was Steffen's second of the year and gave her a new career-high in points with six so far.  Van Wyk assisted on that goal as well, giving her ten points.

Burns scored off a corner for Pacific's seventh successful penalty corner of the game at 42:34.  Kilfoil picked up her fourth assist of the game on the goal and Rutherford got one as well, giving her three points.

Comeau scored at 52:24 off a rebound, making it 12-0 to put the ribbon on Pacific's huge day.  Comeau became the sixth Tiger to record multiple points in the game with her goal that was assisted by Muiños.  She was also one of ten Tigers with multiple shots in the game as Pacific did not allow a shot in the first half and finished the game leading 43-5 in shots.

Pacific will stay in Springfield, Missouri for two more games as they face off against Saint Louis and Missouri State.  The Saint Louis game will be on Sunday at 9:00 am.  The Missouri State game will be on Monday, also at 9:00 am.
