Santa Clara, Calif. - The No. 17 women's water polo team wrapped the regular season with an 11-3 win at Santa Clara in the GCC finale.
Rachel Krieger scored five goals while Karolina Hlavata and Megan Torre each scored twice. Ellen Tiedemann and Catie Mahnke each added goals for Pacific. Alexis Hollinrake recorded 12 saves in goal with three steals and two assists for the Tigers.
Pacific caps the regular season at 6-1 in the Golden Coast Conference and 14-16 overall.
Torre scored the first two goals of the game, and Tiedemann answered a Bronco goal as Pacific led 3-1 after the first quarter. In the second, Pacific tallied all four goals of the period to build a 7-1 lead and seize control. Krieger tallied back-to-back to make it 5-1 before Mahnke finished for a five-goal lead. Krieger completed the hat trick before halftime as the Tigers led 7-1
Santa Clara picked up a goal in the third quarter from Blair Akerland, but Krieger posted her fourth and then set up Hlavata for a 9-2 lead after three.
Hollinrake set up Hlavata in the fourth for a 10-2 lead, and Krieger capped Pacific's scoring with 5:19 to go. Liliana King-Adas finished for Santa Clara, but the Tigers ground down the clock to put away the win.
The Tigers held Santa Clara scoreless on 10 opportunities with a 6-on-5 advantage. Pacific has killed off 61 of their last 68 short-handed situations (90 percent)
Krieger's five goals bring her to 52 on the season.
Pacific has clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's Golden Coast Conference Championship. The Tigers will face the 7 seed in the quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Top seed San Diego State is the host of the GCC Tournament.
