Riverside, Calif. - For the second straight day, the No. 12 Pacific women's water polo needed a fourth quarter comeback, as the Tigers came through late again for a 10-9 win at Cal Baptist on Saturday in a Golden Coast Conference match-up.
Aelish Guinn scored three times while Ellen Tiedemann, Viktoria Szmodics and Rachel Krieger each added two goals. Karolina Hlavata also tallied for Pacific.
The Tigers trailed 9-8 entering the fourth, but Guinn tied the game with 3:57 to go and Tiedemann picked up the game-winner with 1:51 remaining.
Alexis Hollinrake made five of her 11 saves in a shutout fourth quarter.
Hannah Evans scored five of Cal Baptist's nine goals.
Tiedemann opened the scoring off an assist from Megan Torre 25 seconds in, before Evans' first goal of the afternoon tied it at 1-1. Hollinrake set up a goal from Hlavata with a long pass, but Evans fed Jessica Castellano, who tied the game at 2-2 after the first quarter.
Evans put the Lancers on top, 3-2, before Torre set-up a goal from Szmodics on the next possession. Guinn capped a Pacific 6-on-5 for a 4-3 lead but Laura Kocsis answered right back for Cal Baptist. Krieger's power-play goal with 3:13 left in the second gave Pacific a 5-4 lead. Kocsis knotted the game at 5-5, but Guinn answered immediately as the Tigers took a 6-5 lead into the third.
Krieger scored in the Tigers' first possession of the third, but Evans brought the Lancers within 7-6 just 12 seconds later. Szmodics restored a two-goal lead at 8-6, but Valerie Spezzaferri cut the margin to one before Evans tallied back-to-back goals to close the third.
Down 9-8, Hollinrake came up with a pair of saves, before Guinn knotted the score at 9-9. After another save by Hollinrake, Tiedemann tallied and the Tigers fended off three shots by the Lancers in the final 90 seconds.
Pacific improves to 10-14 on the year, 2-0 in GCC play. The Lancers fall to 18-8, 3-1 in the GCC.
The Tigers will be back in action for their first home game on Friday, April 8 against Fresno Pacific to open a five-game home stand at noon.
