Stockton, Calif. - The No. 17 Pacific women's water polo team handled Concordia, 13-3, Saturday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool as six Tigers scored led by four goals each from Karolina Hlavata and Rachel Krieger.
Aelish Guinn, Morgan Hurley, Catie Mahnke, Hannah Rapp and Ellen Tiedemann all each scored a goal for the Tigers in the 10-goal win.
The Tigers scored the first three goals and never looked back, forcing 22 turnovers and outshooting the Eagles 41-26.
Pacific improves to 5-1 in Golden Coast Conference action and 13-15 overall on the year.
Guinn opened the scoring with a steal and skip-shot goal in transition before Krieger immediately finished into the back of the net after the Tigers drew an exclusion. Krieger then passed out of the two-meter to an open Mahnke, who tucked it in the near side from the wing for a 3-0 lead.
Concordia got on the board when Katharine Leese got position in front of the net, forcing goalie Meghan Nee to charge out to deny entry. Nee was whistled for an exclusion and Leese fired it into the empty net. The Eagles cut the margin to 3-2 as Kelsey Stumm lobbed a shot to the top left corner from 4 meters out.
But Krieger answered back as she turned back after taking an entry pass from Viktoria Szmodics and finished into the near side for 4-2 lead.
In the second, Pacific pulled away as Hlavata finished cross cage from three meters away, and then tallied again to the near side on a 6-on-5 opportunity. Hurley made it 7-2 with a lob from the short angle over the keeper and into the far post. Nee sprung Hlavata on a breakout, and Hlavata finished bar down for an 8-2 Pacific lead at the half.
In the third, Krieger finished off the Tigers first possession with her third goal of the game, and then tacked on her fourth on the fast break and she stopped short and lobbed it over the keeper to the far post for a 10-2 lead. Szmodics set up Hlavata in transition, as Hlavata came in from the right side and ripped home a shot over the goalie.
Jastine Vazquez picked up the third Concordia goal in the fourth quarter, as she placed a shot to the top right corner from five meters out. On Pacific's next possession, Rapp scored for the second-straight day as she too a pass from Brinnley Barthels and lobbed it to the far right post from four meters away.
Pacific spent much of the fourth quarter trying to set up Lauren Holden for a goal, but Holden was denied on four shot attempts (her first four of the season). Holden picked up an assist on the final goal as she was surrounded in the two-meter, but tossed it to the back post for a driving Tiedemann, who shoved it into the empty goal for a 13-3 lead.
Szmodics finished with four assists on the afternoon while Barthels, Holden, Hurley, Krieger, Mahnke and Nee each had one helper.
Nee recorded eight saves in goal, with two steals.
Concordia keeper Madelynn Knust registered 13 saves in goal with a steal on the afternoon. The Eagles fall to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in GCC play.
Pacific is back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. for Senior Day against No. 5 UC Irvine.
