Women's Basketball Outruns CSU Bakersfield, 91-61

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team unload a 53-17 run on CSU Bakersfield to run away with a 91-61 win Sunday in the Alex G. Spanos Center. GeAnna Luaulu-Summers scored a season-high 20 points with seven assists in her return to the lineup, while Desire Finnie added 17 points.

Twelve Tigers scored in the game, with Callie Owens adding nine points on a trio of three-pointers, while Emily Simons and Chelsea Lidy each tallied eight. Eli Lopez Sagrera and Unique Coleman each scored seven. Ameela Li added six assists, while Finnie and Luaulu-Summers each tallied three steals.

The Tigers trailed 21-10 with 1:17 to to go in the first quarter, but Pacific outscored the Roadrunners 53-17 over the next 21:17. The run included a 30-6 third quarter for the Tigers. Pacific forced 25 turnovers and held a 37-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

Pacific shot 50.9 percent for the game, 28-of-55. After opening 3-of-11 (27 percent) while CSU Bakersfield built the 21-10 lead, Pacific shot 57 percent the rest of the way (25-of-44). The Tigers struck at a 48 percent clip from three-point range, 12-of-25. Pacific held the Roadrunners to 36 percent shooting (16-of-44) including 28 percent (9-of-32) in the final 31:17 of the game.

The Tigers fell behind early as Erika Williams drained four three-pointers for a 16-5 lead. After a lay-up from Unique Coleman, and a lay-up from Luaulu-Summers, CSU Bakersfield hit a fifth-straight three-pointer.

Finnie and Luaulu-Summers struck again, as the Tigers closed to within 21-14 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Najah Queenland hit a three-pointer and Emily Simons added a jumper as the Tigers climbed within three, at 22-19.

Williams struck again, her fifth-straight made three-pointer, but Callie Owens responded with back-to-back  triples for the Tigers keep Pacific within two at 28-26. Luaulu-Summers knotted the game at 28-28 with a pair of free throws. Tied a 30-30 after free throws, Luaulu-Summers hit a three-pointer from the wing, but Williams drew a foul with the clock expiring, and a pair of free throws led to a halftime margin of 33-32 in Pacific's favor.

The Tigers outscored CSU Bakersfield, 19-11 in the second quarter. Williams didn't miss for the 'Runners, accounting for 19 of 32 points with five threes and four free throws. Luaulu-Summers led Pacific at the break with 10 points.

In the third, Pacific opened with a 9-2 run to stretch the lead to 42-36 as Luaulu-Summers added a lay-up and a three-pointer. Luaulu-Summers hit Finnie on the run for a fast-break lay-up and added a three-pointer as Pacific led by double-digits, 49-38. Coleman hit Luaulu-Summers for a fast-break lay-up and then Coleman finished inside as the Tigers by 15. Finnie added a lay-up and after a chaotic scramble for the rebound, the Tigers made a pair of passes to Owens for a buzzer-beating three and a 63-38 lead after three quarters.

Finnie and Simons hit threes in the fourth, as did Tylah King to stretch Pacific's lead to 80-49. The Tigers coasted home to the 91-61 victory.

The Tigers entered the game 19th in the nation in points per game, with 82.2, and increased their scoring average to 83.4 points per game. Pacific posted a 17-2 advantage in fast break points, and a 41-9 advantage in bench points.

Erika Williams, who scored 17 points in the first quarter (shooting 5-of-5 from the field and three-point range) finished with 25 points to lead CSU Bakersfield, on 7-of-8 shooting.
