Box Score Malibu, Calif. - The Pacific volleyball team had the tables turned in a road West Coast Conference match Saturday as Pepperdine erased a 2-0 deficit for the win at Firestone Fieldhouse, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-10.
Andie Shelton posted 11 kills with 26 assists and 10 digs for a triple-double, while Lexi Elman added a double-double with 15 kills and 23 digs. Emily Baptista also tallied 15 kills, while Ashlyn Fleming added nine while hitting .368.
Jessica Diederich also picked up a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. Katrine Gotterba tallied 19 digs, while Maycie LaBass added 10.
Pepperdine was led by Hannah Frohling and Jasmine Gross, each with 15 kills.
The Tigers fall to 14-10 on the year, 8-4 in West Coast Conference play. The Waves improve to 10-14 overall, 4-8 in the WCC, with half their WCC wins coming at the expense of the Tigers. Pepperdine is the only unranked WCC team to best Pacific this season as the Tigers' other WCC losses are at the hands of No. 5 San Diego and then-No. 13 BYU.
The Tigers opened to a 5-0 lead in set one as Elman served up a pair of aces. Fleming added an ace for a 7-3 lead, and a block from Janie Feldsher and Elman provided a 10-5 margin. Pacific stretched the lead to 20-13 via kills from Baptista and Elman. The Waves mounted a rally, pulling within 22-21 on a 6-1 run. But Jessica Diederich, Baptista and Fleming tallied three straight kills to take the set, 25-21.
In set two, Pacific again jumped out in front, as the Tigers led 6-2. Pacific stretched the lead to 12-8 as Maycie LaBass picked up a kill, Shelton delivered a kill for a 15-10 advantage, but the Waves answered with four-straight points to even the set at 18-18. Tied at 20-20, Skylar Wine put hime a kill, but Pepperdine refused to go quietly, taking a 22-21 lead. Deiderich, Shelton and Baptista tallied kills as Pacific took a 2-0 lead, 25-22.
Set three featured ties at every point until 11-11, when the Waves took a 13-11 lead. The Tigers responded with back-to-back points, but Pepperdine went up 15-13 on a block from Gross and Jenna Tunnell. Tied at 20, Feldsher delivered a kill, but the Waves reeled off five straight points to take a 25-22 win and force set four.
Pepperdine took a 10-8 lead in set four, before the Tigers rallied to tie at 14-14, with Baptisa posting a kill to tie the set at 19-19. The Waves tallied a pair of points but Baptista and Elman struck again to tie at 22-22, before Tunnell and Elman traded kills. Elman was blocked but then finished for a 24-24 tie, but Tarah Wylie and Heidi Dyer struck for consecutive kills as the Waves forced a tie-breaking set, 26-24.
Fleming opened set five with a kill, both Frohling tied the set at 4-4. The Waves surged ahead, stretching the lead out to 10-5 on back-to-back blocks. Feldsher tallied a kill and Gotterba served an ace to pull within 11-9, but out of a timeout, Gross, Jaiden Farr and Wylie scored for a 14-9. Elman staved off match point with a kill, but the Waves finished off the set, but Farr answered to complete the comeback, 15-10.
Pacific will return home to face BYU and San Diego in the final home weekend of the season. The Tigers face No. 16 BYU on Thursday at 7 p.m, and No. 5 San Diego on Saturday at noon.
