Field Hockey Blitzes UC Davis, 6-2, On Senior Day

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team scored five first-half goals to bury UC Davis en route to a 6-2 win on Senior Day Sunday. Alicia Muinos scored two of the Tigers six goals on the afternoon.

Sidney Brooks, Emma Leach, Ash Rutherford and Marguerite van Wyk also scored for Pacific, as the Tigers remained tie in the loss column a top the America East West Division standings with Stanford. Pacific improves to 13-4 overall, 4-1 in the AmEast. UC Davis falls to 4-12 overall, 5-12 in the AmEast.

The Tigers out-shot the Aggies 27-6 for the day, and held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

Pacific got on the board in the sixth minute of the game as Muinos buried a rebound off a shot from Ali Campos. Marguerite van Wyk tallied her 18th goal of the season in the 10th minute, as she roofed the rebound of a Tayler Silacci shot over the keeper off a rebound to put the Tigers up 2-0.

The Tigers stretched the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Leach. van Wyk's shot off a penalty corner was blocked and Leach was there to finish for her second goal of the year.

Muinos struck again just under 10 minutes later, as she took a pass from Rutherford in transition, and ripped a shot from just inside the circle to the far post for her 12th goal of the season.

Pacific capped the first-half scoring with a goal form Rutherford, who swatted an arial into the circle past the goalkeeper for a 5-0 lead.

In the second, Brooks deflected home a Campos shot for a six-goal lead with 8:51 to play. Just over a minute later, UC Davis got on the board as Nica Taglieri scored from the top of the circle.

The Aggies added their second on a penalty corner in the 67th minute, as Lauren Copeland played a short pass ahead and Agustina Singh stepped in to create space and finished to the lower left side of the goal.

Pacific nearly got a goal back a minute later, after a penalty stroke was awarded on a breakout play that UC Davis goalie Chelsea Bigelow attempted to break-up. But Campos' shot intended for inside the left post was just wide and knocked aside.

Tigers goalkeeper Laura Pujade picked up the win on senior day, registering a save. UC Davis starting goalie Beth Lee recorded seven saves with five goals against, while Bigelow  recorded on save and a goal against.

Pacific heads to the regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. against Cal in Berkeley. The Tigers will need a win to keep pace with Stanford, as the Cardinal have completed their conference slate. However, the Cardinal hold the second tie-breaker (as the series was split head-to-head), meaning Pacific would need a blow-out victory over Cal to surpass Stanford's lead in goal differential for the America East West Division's top seed in the conference tournament. Pacific will host the AmEast Tournament on Nov. 3-6.
