Win Streak Continues As Tigers Triumph 6-2

Box Score

Davidson, N.C. – Pacific started their final road trip out of California with yet another W, making it eight in a row with their 6-2 triumph.  Four different Tigers scored in the game as Pacific moved to 8-3 on the year with one non-conference game left to play tomorrow against Davidson at 11:00 am.

Alicia Muiños' hot play continued as she potted the first goal of the game for the Tigers at 11:59.  Muiños now has five goals in her last three games including her first career hat trick against Saint Louis.  Her goal also means that Pacific has now scored the game's first goal in all but two of their 11 games this year.

The game became 2-0 thanks to Ali Campos scoring at 15:11.  The senior scored on a rebound, giving her seven goals this year.

As the half wound to a close, Appalachian State scored to cut the deficit to one.  Taylor Cimbalist had the goal for the Mountaineers.

The Tigers weren't done in the first half, however.  Marguerite van Wyk scored off an untimed corner at the end of the half to make it 3-1.  That was van Wyk's 13th goal of the season and fifth game in a row with a goal.  The assists on the goal went to Ash Rutherford and Hayley Kilfoil.

At the half, the Tigers led 21-2 in shots, allowing only one shot on goal in the 35 minutes.  Pacific also had nine corners to Appalachian State's one.

Savannah Burns extended Pacific's lead further with a goal off a penalty corner when the second half began.  Burns matched her goal total from last year with that rocket, making it nine goals in the last seven games.  Rutherford and Kilfoil assisted again, with Rutherford's 11th assist of the year giving her the team lead.

Jordan Van Cleave of Appalachian State scored at 49:06 to make it 4-2.  The goal came on Appalachian State's fourth shot of the game while Pacific put up 27 shots and 15 on goal in that time.

Burns' second goal of the game, also off a corner, came at 58:53 to make it 5-2.  It was the fourth multi-goal game of the season for Burns and fifth of her career.  With their fifth goal of the game, Pacific now has scored at least five goals in each of the last eight games en route to becoming the highest-scoring team in D-I.

It wasn't just Burns with multiple goals as van Wyk scored again as well, making it 6-2 on Pacific's 37th shot of the game.  The assists went to Rutherford and Emma Leach, who became the seventh Tiger with double-digit points after picking up her eighth assist of the year.

Van Wyk's goal, Pacific's 64th of the year, increased Pacific's NCAA-leading goal total, putting them ten ahead of second-place Penn State.  It would end the game's scoring as well as the Tigers outshot Appalachian State 39-6, with 17 corners to the Mountaineers' four.

The Tigers finish non-conference play tomorrow when they play Davidson at 11:00 am.  The conference opener for Pacific will be September 9 at Stanford at noon.
