Stockton, Calif - Head coach Lynne Roberts announced the addition of three players as forward Mauriana Clayton, guard Tylah King, and point guard Ameela Li will join the the Pacific women's basketball team for the 2015-16 season. Clayton transfers from junior college, while King and Li enter as true freshmen.
"Ameela, Mauriana and Tylah's versatility make them great additions to our group of returning Tigers already looking forward to working towards next season." head coach Lynne Roberts said. "What is most exciting about all three of them is their sincere desire to be here at Pacific."
Tylah King, a 6-0 guard from Queensland, Australia, helped Brisbane State High School to a 60-4 record over the last four years while averaging 15 points, four assists and four rebounds per game. The team won four Queensland Girls Secondary School Conference Championships. King was the team's Most Improved player her junior year and named the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior.
King played at the Queensland State Level in club ball, leading the Northside Wizards in scoring and earning team MVP honors. She was selected to represent Queensland at the Australian U18 National Championships in 2014 and the U20 Australian National Championships in February 2015.
"Tylah has all of the tools to be a great player in our system," Roberts said. "Her combination of height and athleticism give her great versatility on offense end, and allow her to defend multiple positions on the defensive end. On top of that, she comes from a basketball family, and has a great sense for the game."
Mauriana Clayton, a 6-2, forward will join Pacific from Central Arizona College, where she averaged 7.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in helping the Vaqueras to a 25-5 record last season. She shot 54 percent from the field for the season, while hitting 78 percent from the line. Clayton also registered 24 steals with 13 blocks as the Vaqueras advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament.
As a freshman, Clayton averaged 8.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as in 2013-14. She shot 41 percent from the field while posted 32 steals and 23 blocks. She ranked eighth in the conference in rebounds per game, second in offensive rebounds per game, and ninth in free throw shooting as the Vaqueras posted a 33-4 record.
The Rancho, Calif. native was a 2013 graduate of Bishop Amat High School. Clayton will be a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
"Mauri is a great fit all the way around, and has really developed over the last couple years at an excellent junior college program," Roberts continued. "She's an explosive forward who can run the floor, and she has the skills that fit our system and style of play. Plus, she has the personality that instantly fit with our Pacific family."
Ameela Li, a 5-6 point guard from Piedmont High was an All-East Bay First Team selection this season. She averaged 21 points and 6.5 steals per game as a senior, earning WACC-Footballl co-MVP honors. Li led her Highlanders to the NorCal Division IV title game, and also earned Second Team All-Metro Area honors by the SF Gate.
Li also racked up Oakland Tribune All-East Bay First Team honors, and San Francisco Chronicle Second Team All-Metro at Piedmont, a program which has produced a plethora of Division I standouts.
"Ameela's statistics speak for themselves in that she has the ability to really score, she can set up her teammates to score and she can really disrupt the opponents offense," Roberts commented. "However, Ameela's biggest strengths are the effort and intensity with which she plays every minute of every game. Ameela is coming off of a very successful senior year, and I think she can step right in and help Pacific to continued success."
The addition of Clayton, King and Li help the Tigers reload after losing six players to graduation in May. Claire Conricode, Marjorie Heard, Gena Johnson, Kristina Johnson, Kendall Kenyon and Madison Parrish all completed their eligibly, helping Pacific to a 21-10 overall record and fourth-consecutive post-season appearance. The Tigers will return seven players from last year's squad, including Second Team All-West Coast Conference selection Hailie Eackles, and WCC All-Freshman team member GeAnna Luaulu-Summers, and 2014 WCC All-Freshman Team member Unique Coleman.
Roberts, the 2014-15 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, and College Sports Madness Mid-Major Coach of the Year, had previously announced three signees to the program for 2014-15.
