Women’s Basketball Falters in Second Half Loss to San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team ran cold offensively in the second half of a 63-59 loss Saturday afternoon to San Diego at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Prior to then cold spell, the Tigers (11-18, 6-12 WCC) were shooting over 50% from the field on pace for their fourth straight contest eclipsing 70 points. After the intermission Pacific was held to under 20% from the floor while conceding a shade under 40% from the Toreros (10-20, 4-14 WCC).

Sophomore Winner Bartholomew had her best game of the month offensively, scoring 17 points off the bench on 5-for-12 shooting and matched her season highs getting to the free throw line going 7-for-8. She was also active getting her teammates involved, tying her season high three assists. Five rebounds rounded out the sophomore's day.

Beyond Bartholomew, Pacific featured a very balanced scoring attack that saw ten of the 11 student-athletes that entered the game score at least two points. Junior Marina Radocaj and true freshman
Sophia Mindermann were at the forefront of that balance, scoring eight and nine points respectively.

For Radocaj, the scoring bookended a well-rounded outing for her as she also grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, forced two steals and blocked three shots. On the season she eclipsed 30 blocks, making her the fifth Tiger in team history to have multiple seasons with over 30 blocks – joining teammate Sydney Ward.

Between the both of them, they are the first pair to accomplish this feat twice in team history. Radocaj, alongside Ward, also joined former Tigers Gena Johnson and Kendall Kenyon as the only Tigers to have consecutive 30-block seasons.

Getting back to the true freshman, she connected on three triples in the contest and became the 17th student-athlete in program history to reach 60 three-pointers in a single season.

Despite the loss, Pacific cinched the eighth seed in the upcoming WCC conference tournament and a bye into the second round as Saint Mary's fell to Washington State earlier in the day. The full bracket, complete with dates and times, will be announced on Sunday. If current projections hold, the Tigers should face the winner of Washington State and Seattle – both teams Pacific bested during the regular season.
