Pacific went 1-4 at the Louisville Slugger Invitational, splitting with Grand Canyon while falling to CSUN and UConn.
From A To Zaptoczny
Junior second baseman Nicole Zapotoczny has made an early case for WCC Player of the Year as the Huntington Beach, Calif. product is tied for the conference lead in RBI (26) and is second in slugging percentage (.621) and total bases (64), third in home runs (7) and tied for third in doubles (64).
Gustafson Great in the Circle
Amongst qualified pitchers, Pacific sophomore Cassidy Gustafson has allowed the fewest earned runs (24), surrendered the fewest walks (9). She leads the WCC in fewest walks allowed per seven innings (1.26), a mark that is good for 31st-fewest in the nation. Gustafson's 3.36 ERA is the fifth best mark in the WCC amongst qualifiers. Splitting time between the circle, third base and left field, Gustafson leads the conference in fielding assists with 92.
We Demand A Sacrifice
Melanie Habib is second in the WCC in sacrifice hits per game (0.29) and total sacrifice bunts (10), a mark that is good for 36th-best in the nation.
Bourne To Hit
Pacific freshman Molly Bourne registered a five hit weekend, hitting .333 and tallying three doubles while playing errorless defense, splitting time between the outfield and third base. Against UConn, the Whittier, Calif. product went 3-3 with a pair of double and scored a run . On the weekend, Bourne tallied a .533 slugging percentage and eight total bases, proving to be an offensive force from the third spot in the order for Pacific.
It Starts At The Top
Pacific leadoff hitter junior Sara Anderson has excelled so far this season, hitting .294 in the leadoff spot. The Woodinville, Wash. product has 21 runs scored this season, a mark good for fourth in the conference. Anderson's four runs scored in the victory at Bakersfield matches a program high set by Paige Emerson on Mar. 20th, 2009. Anderson leads the Tigers in runs scored (10) and steals (3) so far this season.
Series Record
Pacific holds a 32-30-1 mark all-time over San Jose State. The two teams did not meet in 2014 as rain washed out the scheduled meeting. Pacific split a pair of games with the Spartans in the Libby Matson Tournament at Bill Simoni Field in 2013, falling 2-4 before coming back with a 3-2 win to capture the 2013 Libby Matson Tournament title.
Scouting Report: San Jose State
San Jose State comes into the contest with a 22-11 record on the season, including a perfect 3-0 in home games. Last weekend, the Spartans opened up Mountain West play hosting Boise State. SJSU took down the Broncos with three straight run-rule shortened victories. Jessie Hufstetler leads the team with a .479 average, including 12 doubles and an impressive 49 RBI. Shannon-Renae Estrada is tied with Hufstetler for the team lead in homers (8). From the circle, Allison Lang (7-5, 3.06 ERA) and Madison Fish (11-3, 3.19 ERA) have seen the bulk of innings pithed, combining for 27 of the team's 33 starts.

Pacific will join the rest of the West Coast Conference teams in taking the weekend off from competition before returning home to Bill Simoni Field for a 6:00 pm contest against Stanford on Tuesday, Mar. 31.
Dani Picks Up WCC Plaudit
The Tigers' senior ace out of Peoria, Ariz. posted a 1.17 ERA on the week ending March 8, striking out three and allowing just two earned runs on her way to the conference's weekly award. Against 2014 Mountain West champion San Diego State, Bonnet tossed a complete game, allowing just two earned runs over her seven innings of work and walking just one batter. Bonnet returned against No. 9 Baylor, tossing 3.2 innings scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win against the Bears. In the nightcap, Bonnet gain took the circle for 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, keeping the Oregon Ducks at bay as Pacific rallied back before falling 9-7 to the No. 2 team in the nation.
Preseason Accolades
Juniors Sara Anderson and Nicole Zapotoczny have been named to the All-WCC Preseason team. Anderson and Zapotoczny were both All-WCC second team selections at the end of the 2014 season. Anderson entered her junior campaign off the heels of a season in which the outfielder from Woodinville, Wash. hit .286 with an .349 on-base average, setting the tone at the top of the Pacific order. Anderson set the Pacific record for hits in a single contest with five against Loyola Marymount on April 12. The feat also established the West Coast Conference mark. Zapotoczny, a Huntington Beach, Calif. product, is poised for a breakout junior season. Returning from an injury-plagued freshman year and playing her first full season as a sophomore in 2014, Zapotoczny hit .278 with 11 extra-base hits and started every game at second base for the Orange and Black, appearing in 20 games in the clean-up spot of the order.
2016 Tigers Taking Shape
Pacific Softball head coach Brian Kolze added two players to his 2016 squad during the early signing period, welcoming pitcher Kenya Lindstrom (Denver, Colo.) and outfielder Taylor Covington (Los Alamitos, Calif.) to the team. In her senior campaign, played in the Fall in Colorado, Lindstrom led her Denver East Angels to a 16-5 record and a spot in the Colorado 5A Region 6 Playoffs. Lindstrom held opponents to a 0.77 ERA, compiling a 13-5 record with 16 complete games, 8 shutouts and a perfect game against rival Denver South. Covington, an outfielder from Los Alamitos High School was Named All-Sunset League second team following the 2014 season. She helped the Griffins to a 21-13 record and a second place finish in the Sunset League during her junior season. Following the campaign, she received Los Alamitos' Coaches Award and was named a NFCA Scholar Athlete. In addition, Taylor was named to the StudentSports.com Top 100 prospects list for 2015.
