STOCKTON, Calif. - Karolina Hlavata scored three goals and Michele Relton recorded 16 saves as the No. 15 Pacific women's water polo team fended off Harvard, 11-8, Tuesday under the lights at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
Brydie Pye scored two fourth-quarter goals, while Taylor Adair tallied two in the third quarter. Rachel Krieger also picked up two goals, while Noelle Mann and Gracie Smith each hit the back of the cage.
The Tigers improve to 9-9 on the season, while Harvard falls to 13-7. Ariel Dukes posted 14 saves for the Crimson while Charlotte Hendrix scored three times, and Rachel Lobato and Victoria Frager each posted two goals. Yoshi Andersen also tallied for Harvard.
Harvard opened to a 2-0 lead on goals by Charlotte Hendrix and Rachel Lobato. Hlavata put Pacific on the board, and with 19 seconds left in the first, Rachel Krieger knotted the score by hitting the corner.
On the second quarter, Hlavata finished in transition with a lob over the keeper. After Relton denied a five-meter penalty shot, Brydie Pye fed Noelle Mann on the doorstep for a one-timer and a 4-2 lead.
Lobato outraced Relton to a rebound and poked it under the keeper's arm and over the line to bring the Crimson within 4-3. The Tigers hit the frame in the final seconds before halftime, as Pacific carried the one goal lead into the break.
Charlotte Hendrix tied the game at the 4:59 mark, but Taylor Adair answered right back with a goal on the ensuing possession.
The Tigers were charged with an exclusion and Yoshi Andersen capitalized seconds later to even the game again 5-5.
Hlavata responded with a cross-cage shot to the top corner, bar down, for a 6-5 lead on the very next possession for Pacific.
With time on the far side, Victoria Frager finished with a sharp-angle shot to bring Harvard tied 6-6.
Adair skipped home the go-ahead goal from six meters away before the end of the third quarter.
Pye stretched Pacific's lead to three by scoring back-to-back goals for Pacific, and Kreiger snuck it in the near post with 3:26 to go.
Hendrix capped the hat trick with 3:05 remaining, and Frager pulled the Crimson within 10-8 with 2:42 remaining.
The Tigers ran the clock down, and with the pool spread, a long pass to Smith on the final possession left her one-on-one with Dukes and she finished to ice the game.
Pacific will travel to Azusa Pacific on Saturday in a noon Golden Coast Conference start.
