Box Score Davis, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team posted a big second half for a 66-53 win at UC Davis Monday at the Pavilion. The Tigers out-scored the Aggies 35-18 in the final 20 minutes to move to 2-0 on the year.
Hailie Eackles led the way with 17 points while Erin Butler added 15 on five made threes. Najah Queenland added eight points and seven rebounds, while Unique Coleman chipped in nine points and six boards. Mauriana Clayton grabbed nine rebounds to go with six points.
The Tigers unleashed a 22-11 third quarter to seize control 53-46 lead into fourth quarter.
Pacific forced 20 UC Davis turnovers and held the Aggies to 6-of-25 shooting in the second. The Tigers posted a 22-11 third quarter and 13-7 fourth quarter to erase a 35-31 halftime deficit.
Queenland drew first blood with a lay-up inside and then drove through the lane to give Pacific a 6-5 lead early. Butler recorded a block on the defensive end and then hit a three-pointer from the corner. Alyson Doherty finished inside for the Aggies.
UC Davis employed a zone, and the Tigers settled for long-range shots as the Aggies chipped away. Rachel Nagel gave UC Davis a 13-10 lead with 2:20 to go in the quarter.
Each team tacked on free throws as the Aggies led 18-13 after the first quarter.
In the second, Eackles hit a pull-up jumper, and Clayton added a put-back as Pacific trailed 22-17. Kourtney Eaton hit a triple as the Aggies led by eight.
Pacific responded with a 7-0 run as Eackles answered back with a drive, and Coleman spun and finished at the rim. After a stop on defense, Eackles drained a three to cut the gap to 25-24.
The Aggies reeled off five in a row before Coleman tallied inside and Butler hit her second three-pointer of the game. But UC Davis took a 35-31 lead into the half.
Pacific shot 29 percent in the first half, 11-of-38, while the Aggies shot 41 percent (9-of-22). UC Davis scored 15 of their 35 points from the charity stripe, but the Tigers led in rebounding, 22-18, and forced nine turnovers to stay within four.
Eackles opened the third quarter with a triple and after a stop, Eackles struck again from deep for the lead, 37-35. After three Aggie free throws, Luaulu-Summers hit a jumper off an offensive board.
Clayton finished inside but Morgan Bertsch finished inside to cut the margin to 42-40. Butler drilled a triple from the corner and Coleman posted a steal and lay-up for a 47-40 Pacific lead.
Luaulu-Summers canned a three-pointer as the Tigers stretched the lead to 50-42.
But the Aggies answered back with four-straight before Butler curbed the momentum with a three from the wing.
Pacific closed the third with a 53-46 lead after out-scoring the Aggies 22-11 in the period. The Tigers hit 5-of-9 from three-point range in the quarter.
Simons ran the floor in transition for a quick bucket and Butler drilled another triple for a 10-point lead. Clayton finished inside while being fouled for a 64-51 lead with 4:27 to play. The Tigers coasted home from there, running the clock down with heavy motion .
Pacific owned the boards with a 48-35 edge on the glass with 19 offensive rebounds, and out-scored the Aggies 28-20 in the paint.
The Aggies were led by Pele Gianotti and Dani Nafekh with 11 points each. The Tigers held Doherty to eight points in the contest as she battled foul trouble.
UC Davis falls to 0-2, losing back-to-back home games to No. 14 Stanford and Pacific.
The Tigers will hit the road again for the third of a six-straight season-opening away games, facing Montana at 6 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday before visiting Utah State for a 5 p.m. PT tip-off in Logan.
