Box Score Stockton, Calif. - In the finale of a two-game road swing through the Bay Area, the Pacific Men's Soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against the host Broncos at Stevens Stadium on the Santa Clara University campus. Pacific sophomore goalkeeper Curtis Goldsmith recorded his first career shutout in the match, picking up five saves in a 110 minute effort. The Tigers record now sits at 1-11-1 on the season while Santa Clara is 6-7-1, as both teams recorded their first draws of the season.
Goldsmith was tested immediately in this contest, turning away a shot by Max Ornstil in the second minute of action. Goldsmith also was called into action in the 24th minute, stopping an attempt by Andres Jimenez before Ornstil fired a second attempt wide.
In a defensive-minded second half, The Tigers had their best scoring opportunity of the match in the 86th minute of the contest. After a foul on Santa Clara led to a direct kick for the Tigers, the ball was played into the box for Andres Ochoa, who delivered a shot that hit the post, skirting off the goal line and out of play, as Broncos goalkeeper Kendall Mcintosh escaped danger.
At the end of regulation, the Broncos held a 12-4 shot advantage, but the hosts had nothing fired on target in the second 45 minutes of action.
In the first sudden-victory overtime period, Goldsmith reprised his role as the last line of defense for the Tigers. A 96th minute cross found Jimenez in front of the goalmouth, but Goldsmith corralled the attempt to keep the game alive, setting up Pacific for a chance to prevail late.
The second 10 minutes of overtime saw Goldsmith record a save on a sharp shot by Satoshi Chaffin and Pacific had one final salvo, as Blackmon fired a deflected shot just high of his target and the Tigers were awarded a corner kick. The attempt found the boot of a Santa Clara defender, who provided a clearance that sealed the scoreless draw in Silicon Valley.
Ochoa and Juilo Cervantes each recorded a pair of shots for the Tigers while Collin Bettencourt, Tristan Blackmon, Brian Im and Camden Riley each had one scoring attempt.
