Malibu, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team held on for a 63-59 win at Pepperdine Thursday night as Madison Parrish posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Hailie Eackles added 10 points while Kristina Johnson chipped in nine points and five assists.
Unique Coleman also scored nine points and Kendall Kenyon tallied seven points and 12 rebounds for Pacific. GeAnna Luaulu-Summers added seven points.
Pacific led for almost 34 minutes and never trailed in the second half, but the Waves used a 19-4 run to tighten up the contest late before Pacific hit 4-of-5 crunch time free throws to close out the game.
The Tigers improve to 15-6 overall, 7-3 in WCC play. Pepperdine falls to 6-15 on the year, 1-9 in WCC action.
Pacific went cold in the second half on offense, shooting 29 percent (8-of-28) but finished at 39 percent for the game (22-of-57) and scored 20 points off 16 Pepperdine turnovers to win their fourth in a row over the Waves.
Eackles hit a three from the wing to put Pacific on the board and Kristina Johnson drove to the rim, but the Waves converted a pair of pull-up jumpers to be tied at 8-8.
Parrish gave the Tigers the lead with a three-pointer from the corner and Eackles drove to the rim to put Pacific up 16-10 with 11:44 to go in the first. Najah Queenland stroked a three-pointer and Kenyon finished inside as Pacific reeled off a 13-0 run to stretch the lead to 24-10.
Olivia Ogwumike hit back-to-back jumpers to bring Pepperdine within 30-24 with 3:57 to go in the first. The Waves closed the gap to four before Parrish responded with a three from the top of the key.
Luaulu-Summers added a floater and beat the halftime clock from just inside mid court as the Tigers took a 39-27 lead into halftime.
The Tigers shot 48 percent (14-of-29) in the first half, holding Pepperdine to 38 percent (11-of-29) while forcing 10 Waves turnovers. The Tigers turned those 10 miscues into 15 points.
With the Waves focused on Kenyon inside, Pacific hit 5-of-11 from three-point range in the first half. Parrish led the Tigers with nine points at the break.
Kristina Johnson answered a Pepperdine jumper with a drive and finish. Kenyon tallied inside and then posted a block and rebound on the defense end, leading to a three from Eackles as a 46-31 Pacific lead.
Pepperdine reeled off an 11-2 run, as Kim Jacobs hit a three for the Waves to trim the gap to four. The Tigers suffered a 1-for-8 shooting drought enabling the Waves to pull within 50-48 with 10:12 to go.
Parrish halted the drought with a three, but Jacobs tied the game at 53-53 with three from the wing. Kenyon put-back a missed three for the Tigers' lead, and Coleman added a triple as the Tigers led by six, 59-53 with 4:53 left in the second half.
The Tigers ran clock but came empty on their next two possessions, as Brockway finished inside for Pepperdine to close within two at 59-57.
Johnson intercepted a swing pass with 55 seconds to go and hit a pair of free throws. After a pair of throws from Keitra Wallace cut the Pepperdine deficit to two with 23.7 to go, Luaulu-Summers hit a pair from the line for a four-point lead.
Pacific posted the stop on defense as time ran out on the Waves comeback attempt.
The Tigers will visit Loyola Marymount on Saturday at 2 p.m.
