Eackles' Three Gives Pacific OT Win At Saint Mary's

Moraga, Calif. - Kendall Kenyon became Pacific's career rebounding leader and scored 21 points while Hailie Eackles scored 21 points including a game-winning three as the Pacific women's basketball team posted an overtime win at Saint Mary's, 88-86, Saturday.

Eackles canned her sixth three-pointer of the game with 18.7 seconds left in overtime, In a game that featured 13 ties and 13 lead changes by the previously unbeaten WCC co-leaders, the Tigers improved to 5-0 in conference play and 13-3 overall. Saint Mary's falls to 11-5 overall, 4-1 in WCC action.

Madison Parrish added 18 points and Unique Coleman 11 points and seven rebounds.

Kenyon grabbed 11 rebounds for her 42nd career double-double and scored 19 of her 21 points after halftime. Kristina Johnson added seven points with five assists against no turnovers. Eackles finished 6-of-12 from the field, with all her shots coming from behind the three-point line.

The Tigers led for virtually the entire first half, and led by 10 with 16:06 to play, but the Gaels shot 58 percent for the game and scored 48 points in the paint to rally back.

Of the 26 ties and lead changes, 23 occurred in the final 17:56 to action.

The Tigers posted late baskets and stops at the end of both regulation and overtime.

At the 19:09 mark of the second half, Kenyon grabbed Carli Rosenthal's miss on the Saint Mary's end for her 959th career rebound, breaking he all-time record for the Pacific program. Julie Szukalski held the mark with 958 in 108 games. Kenyon broke the record in her 108th game.

Rosenthal and Eackles traded lay-ups on the first possessions for each team. Unique Coleman drained a three from the corner for a 5-4 lead. The Tigers (6) and Gaels (5) combined to hit their first 11 shots of the game as Pacific built a 15-11 lead on a trio of three-pointers. Erin Butler knocked down a three-pointer and Coleman spun and finished inside for a 20-15 lead.

Pacific finally missed a shot on their ninth field goal. Kristina Johnson drove and finished off the glass for a 22-18 lead with 13:40 to go in the first. Eackles drained two more threes and Najah Queenland added a lay-up for a 34-26 lead. Coleman drove twice as the Tigers maintained a nine-point lead at 40-31.

But the Gaels got a jumper from Hannah Kaser just before the halftime buzzer to cut the gap to 42-36 at the break.

Eackles led the Tigers with 11 points in the first half, while Coleman added nine and Johnson seven. Pacific shot 50 percent (14-of-28) in the first half, Saint Mary's shot 70 percent

Kenyon tallied a put-back for a 48-40 lead, but the Gaels held on the defensive end and pulled within 50-48 on a pair of free throws from Shannon Mauldin.

Saint Mary's tied the game at 51-51 on an and-one from Lauren Nicholson. But GeAnna Luaulu-Summers drilled a three-pointer on the next possession to restore the Tigers lead.

Madison Parrish added a three-pointer, but Mauldin narrowed the gap to one with a pair of free throws.

Parrish responded with another triple only to see Nicholson convert a three-point play on the other end as the Tigers led 60-59 with 9:30 to go.

A pair of free throws gave Saint Mary's their first lead of the second half, but Eackles rained a three from the wing for a 63-62 lead.

Maudlin and Parrish traded back-to-back drives before the Gaels took a 67-65 lead on a lay-up by Stella Beck.

Parrish scooped it into the basket on a drive. Eackles grabbed an offensive rebound and after a reset, hit another three-pointer to put Pacific back on top, 70-69 with 3:49 to play.

The Gaels picked up a pair from Hayley Hendricksen from the free throw line and posted a stop on defense. Maudlin drove for a lay-up to put Saint Mary's up 73-70 at the 3:16 mark.

Kenyon hit a pair of free throws to trim the deficit to one, 73-72, with 1:40 left in regulation.

Pacific held on defense, forcing a miss with the shot clock dwindling, but the Hendricksen grabbed the offensive rebound for the Gaels.

Devyn Galland hit one-of-two from the free throw line with 22 seconds left. Kenyon rattled home a soft jumper from the paint with 15 seconds to play.

Parrish came away with a steal to thwart the Gaels final possession, but her half-court heave didn't go.

Kenyon tied the game with an overtime jumper after  a pair of Gaels free throws.

After forcing a turnover, Kenyon scored inside for a 78-76 lead. Pacific took a charge, but came up empty of the offensive end.

Rosenthal scored a lay-up and Beck hit two free throws for Saint Mary's for an 80-78 lead before Kenyon finished inside for the 12th tie of the game.

Carly Turner hit a jumper amid a late-shot clock scrum, but Kenyon responded with an and-one for the lead.

Beck tallied inside, but Parrish answered back with a minute to go in the extra period.

Turner connected for a baseline jumper to give Saint Mary's the lead with 30 seconds left.

Eackles three-pointer with 18 seconds left and Luaulu-Summers grabbed a defensive rebound. She missed both free throws, but Nicholson's jumper at the buzzer rolled over the rim as the Tigers snapped a six-game slide in overtime games dating back to 2010.

The Tigers are 5-0 in conference play for the second time in program history, as Pacific started 6-0 in Big West play in 2004.
