Box Score Boston - The Pacific Field Hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Boston University Terriers on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field. The Tigers, in the midst of a four game trip through New England, largely matched the Patriot League Runner ups from a year ago, ceding just a first half goal off a penalty corner. The Tigers fall to 2-3 in 2014 after the non-conference loss while the Terriers improve to 2-2 on the young season.
BU controlled much of the rhythm in the first half, firing ten shots to the Tigers five, but sophomore Laura Pujade was a standout in goal, making six first half saves, including a lunging save on a Terriers penalty corner.
In the 22nd minute, the Terriers were able to capitalize after a penalty corner was awarded. Rachel Coll inserted and her pass was stopped by Ellie Landsman, who found Sofi Laurito in front of the goal. Laurito passed to Amanda Cassera, who shot past Pujade towards the right post to put the hosts up 1-0.
The Tigers called timeout in the 23rd minute, looking to regroup following the Terriers score. Pacific was granted a penalty corner in the 27th minute, but sophomore Ali Campos saw her shot skid wide of the cage. The Tigers were again awarded a penalty corner as the first half clock expired, but Campos had her shot attempt blocked.
In the second half, the Tigers and Terriers swapped fruitless shots but the Terriers had a great opportunity to extend their lead at the 48 minute mark when a penalty stroke was granted to BU. Hester Van Der Laan took the shot, but fired high as Pujade made a jump save to knock it over the cage and keep the score at 1-0.
A Pacific penalty corner led to a shot by Campos at the 56:45 mark, but Terriers keeper Valentina Cerda made a save on the attempt. Freshman Savannah Burns managed to get off one last shot for Pacific during the 66th minute, but it went wide and BU was able to run out the remainder of the clock, preserving a 1-0 victory.
In total, Pujade made nine saves for the Orange and Black. Campos led the Tigers with three shots.
The Tigers will wrap up the road trip on Tuesday at 8:30 am Pacific time as they return to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth. Live stats and video links are available via PacificTigers.com
